Landscape Maintenance Lead

Overview The Backyard Life is an outdoor living contractor in St. George, UT, building and maintaining awnings, shades, outdoor kitchens, landscapes, and hardscapes for homeowners across Washington County. We're hiring a Landscape Maintenance Lead to run our maintenance operation on the ground — leading a small crew while working right alongside them. This is a hands-on role first: you'll be on tools the large majority of the day, setting the pace and the quality standard by doing the work, not just directing it. You'll own the look of every property you touch and be the face our clients see and trust on site. Qualifications 3+ years of professional landscape maintenance experience, with at least 1 year leading or directing a crew Working knowledge of irrigation systems — able to diagnose and repair common drip and spray issues Confident with commercial maintenance equipment: mowers, trimmers, blowers, hedge tools Comfortable with light hardscape and planting work (bed prep, plant installs, minor repairs) Valid Utah driver's license and a clean driving record Able to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly and work outdoors in Southern Utah summer heat Reliable, on time, and able to manage a daily route without close supervision Bilingual English/Spanish a strong plus Plant knowledge for the Southern Utah climate (desert-adapted species, water management) is a significant advantage Duties Lead a maintenance crew through a daily route of residential properties while working hands-on alongside them Perform and oversee mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, weed control, and cleanup to a consistent standard Diagnose and repair irrigation issues; flag larger system problems for follow-up Handle light hardscape and planting tasks as scheduled Walk each completed property and own the final quality before leaving the site Communicate professionally with clients on site and surface repair or upsell opportunities to the office Maintain equipment and vehicles; report damage and service needs promptly Track and report completed work and job status
