Job Description

The Village School of North Bennington has an anticipated opening for a full-time Lead Maintenance Custodian for the 2026/2027 school year, beginning on or before July 1, 2026. This position will work year-round, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The salary is commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain compliance with all OSHA regulations, including upkeep of the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) binder Work with contractors to schedule all state & federally required building inspections Conduct routine fire and safety inspections of the building, identifying structural or fixture concerns and working to correct them Provide generalized and specialized custodial project cleaning services throughout the building and grounds, including the occasional cleaning of bodily fluids (vomit, blood, urine, etc.) during the school day, as needed and in accordance with OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens training Maintain all machinery and equipment utilized in and by the school, including: playground structures, boilers, radiators, autoscrubber, floor buffer, etc. Manage HVAC system, in coordination with Head of School and/or Assistant Head of School, and work with Control Technologies technicians to troubleshoot, identify, and correct problems Provide event support, including but not limited to the set-up/breakdown of seating, tables, etc. Snow removal and landscaping, as needed Coordinate with vendors for custodial supplies/services Performing minor plumbing, painting, and carpentry work, such as repairing faucet washers, unclogging drains, putting up shelves, etc. Ensuring that all supplies are stocked and that bathroom supplies are replenished, as needed Other duties as requested by the Head of School.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent Experience with general carpentry, plumbing, and painting Experience working with various power tools and equipment such as autoscrubbers, chemical stations, backpack vacuum cleaners, etc. Experience working in a school environment Working knowledge of OSHA standards Ability to work on heights (ladder, extension ladder, roof, etc.) Ability to lift, push, and/or carry 50 lbs, minimum Must be able to pass a series of background checks
Pay:
$20.00 - $25.00 per hour
