The Maintenance Manager is responsible for ensuring our facilities provide the safe, clean, and well-maintained environment our students deserve to learn and grow by leading, planning, directing, and supervising the maintenance, repair, and operation of all school district buildings, grounds, equipment, and systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead, plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate maintenance operations for district facilities.
Direct preventive maintenance programs for buildings, grounds, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, and equipment.
Prioritize and assign work orders, maintenance projects, and emergency repairs.
Supervise maintenance personnel, custodial staff, and contracted service providers.
Develop work schedules and ensure efficient use of labor and resources.
Conduct inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including safety and environmental requirements.
Assist in developing and managing maintenance and facilities budgets.
Prepare cost estimates and specifications for maintenance projects and repairs.
Monitor inventory and procurement of maintenance supplies, equipment, and materials.
Coordinate with school administrators and department leaders regarding facility needs and project schedules.
Respond to emergencies and provide after-hours support when necessary.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment maintenance histories.
Oversee contractor performance and ensure projects are completed according to specifications and timelines.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to lead, train, and evaluate employees -
Knowledge of building maintenance practices, construction methods, and facility operations.
Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and grounds maintenance systems.
Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals, and construction specifications.
Strong organizational, budgeting, and project management skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, contractors, administrators, and the public.
Knowledge of workplace safety regulations and risk management practices.
Proficiency with standard office equipment and software.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's degree in facilities management, construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred.
Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in building maintenance, facilities management, or construction.
Minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Relevant certifications (HVAC, electrical, facilities management, or safety-related certifications) preferred.
Physical Requirements
Ability to walk, stand, climb ladders, and inspect facilities.
Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Ability to respond to emergencies outside normal working hours.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in school buildings, the maintenance shop, and outdoor environments.
Occasional exposure to hazardous materials, machinery, and adverse weather conditions.
May require evening, weekend, or emergency call-out work.
