Job Description
Under general supervision, the Equipment Services Manager oversees and participates in the maintenance and repair of the City's vehicles and equipment in a safe, cost-effective, and timely manner. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following : Schedules and manages all maintenance and repair work; provides supervision and direction to assigned staff; assists in troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and general equipment issues. Procures parts and tires for vehicles and equipment; manages bidding and contracts for gas and diesel purchases; maintains the fueling station operations and inventories. Prepares budget estimates; collaborates with other City departments to determine vehicle and equipment needs and all associated costs. Manages to procurement and surplus of all City vehicles and equipment; calculates operating costs; prepares estimates for damaged vehicles; writes vehicle and equipment specifications. Assists with the general cleaning of the shop, vehicles, and equipment. Welds and fabricates metal using a variety of tools and techniques. Oversees, schedules, and participates in facilities maintenance and repair work. Sets up new vehicles and systems with communications equipment, networking hardware, and safety equipment. Performs related duties as assigned. Vocational training in equipment or vehicle repair or related field AND four (4) years of progressively responsible automotive and heavy equipment repair experience which includes some previous supervisory or lead responsibilities; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Knowledge of:
Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances. General office policies, procedures, and equipment. Customer service principles, practices, and etiquette. Welding and fabrication methods. Inventory management practices and systems. Electric and computer systems in vehicles. Hydraulic, electric, fuel injection and computer systems. General uses and functions of various vehicles and equipment used by the City. Supervisory principles and practices.Skill in:
Reading and accurately interpreting repair and operator manuals. Operating various tools and equipment. Performing accurate mathematic calculations. Diagnosing and troubleshooting vehicles and equipment. Maintaining accurate records and filing systems. Interacting tactfully and professionally with City staff, outside agencies, and the public. Organizing and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines. Completing multiple tasks simultaneously. Typing and entering data with speed and accuracy. Preparing clear and concise communications, reports, and technical documents. Analyzing complex issues and implementing appropriate responses. Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS A
