Job Description

Job Title:
HVAC Maintenance Supervisor
  • Steel Mill Operations Position Summary The HVAC Maintenance Supervisor leads the preventive and corrective maintenance of all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems throughout the steel mill.
This is a hands-on leadership role in an extreme industrial environment with high temperatures, dust, particulates, cranes, and heavy mobile equipment. The Maintenance Supervisor will ensure maximum uptime of critical HVAC systems that support production, employee comfort, electrical rooms, control rooms, cranes, laboratories, and administrative areas. Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise, schedule, and direct a team of HVAC technicians and mechanics on all shifts (including rotating or 24/7 coverage as required).
  • Involved and hiring process for new technicians
  • Weekly Safety Meetings
  • Housekeeping and upkeep of HVAC area
  • Develop and execute preventive maintenance (PM) programs for chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, rooftop units, dust collectors, exhaust systems, process cooling systems, boilers, and refrigeration units.
  • Oversee troubleshooting and emergency repair of HVAC systems in high-heat, high-dust, corrosive, and vibration-intensive steel mill environments.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, ASHRAE, and plant-specific safety and environmental standards (lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work, refrigerant handling, etc.).
  • Maintain accurate EPA refrigerant tracking records and ensure all technicians hold current EPA Universal certification.
  • Coordinate with production, electrical, and reliability teams to schedule outages and minimize impact on steelmaking operations.
  • Manage spare parts inventory, critical spares, and vendor relationships for HVAC equipment and refrigerants.
  • Lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) for repetitive HVAC failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate team members; enforce safety and work standards.
  • Participate in plant safety programs, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, 5S, etc.)
  • Must wear PPE including respiratory protection when required.
  • Frequent climbing of ladders, scaffolding, and catwalks; lifting up to 50 lbs.
