Join our team as a Water Resiliency Representative! Santa Margarita Water District is seeking a customer-focused and technically minded Water Resiliency Representative to support the District's water conservation, water efficiency, leak detection, and customer outreach initiatives. This unique role combines fieldwork, customer service, meter expertise, irrigation expertise and water resource management to help customers better understand and manage their water use while supporting the District's commitment to long-term water sustainability. About the Role Under general supervision, the Water Resiliency Representative performs a variety of customer service, field investigation, meter, and conservation-related duties in support of the District's Water Resiliency Division. This position serves as an important liaison between the District and its customers, helping resolve high-bill concerns, identify leaks, support conservation public education and outreach programs, and ensure accurate water consumption data and meter performance. The role works closely with Water Efficiency, Cross-Connection, GIS, Customer Relations, and Operations staff and requires a combination of technical knowledge, field experience, analytical skills, and outstanding customer service. Assist customers to review their irrigation system, make minor sprinkler timer adjustments, and provide recommendations for high efficiency upgrades. Investigate high water usage and potential leaks through field inspections, irrigation checks, meter analysis, and customer outreach Conduct residential and commercial site surveys to identify water conservation opportunities and provide recommendations Review meter readings and consumption data to ensure accuracy and identify unusual usage patterns Assist with leak detection efforts and coordinate with District crews to identify and resolve water loss issues Support GIS field activities, asset verification, and water system data collection efforts Maintain accurate records, reports, service orders, and customer communications Represent the District at community events and public outreach activities promoting water conservation and resiliency programs Provide support to other Water Resiliency, Customer Service, and Operations teams as needed What You Bring Strong customer service and communication skills Experience analyzing water usage data and resolving customer concerns Knowledge of water conservation principles, meter operations, and water distribution systems Ability to perform field investigations, leak detection, and technical troubleshooting Familiarity with irrigation systems, GIS applications, and water efficiency programs Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with multiple teams Commitment to exceptional customer service, water stewardship, and public engagement Education & Experience High school diploma or GED and experience in meter reading, meter testing, repair, calibration, water utility operations, customer service, or a related field. Experience working with the public and providing customer service is highly desirable, and bilingual Spanish skills are a plus.
