JOB SUMMARY
: Performs technical work in the installation, maintenance, repair and testing of parking meters and other parking related equipment. Performs secure collection, handling, and transport of parking meter revenue, ensuring adherence to established safety and cash-handling procedures.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This journey-level classification is responsible for competently and independently ensuring that parking meters are installed, maintained, and repaired for optimal operation. In addition to technical maintenance duties, the incumbent is responsible for securely collecting, handling, and transporting parking meter revenue in accordance with established City procedures for safety, security, and key control.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
: Receives general supervision from the Parking Services Supervisor. Positions in this class work independently on assigned or established tasks. May provide technical guidance to temporary or seasonal employees but does not exercise direct supervisory authority.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
: (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks that may be found in positions of this class.) Installs, maintains, and repairs parking meters, meter poles, housing, pay stations, and other related equipment. Diagnoses mechanical, electronic, or programming issues and determines repair requirements. Performs cash collections from parking meters and parking pay stations; follows defined collection schedules, key security procedures, and secure transport protocols. Responds tactfully to questions and comments from the general public. Provides a safe working environment for themselves and others under established guidelines. Tests, disassembles, inspects, and assembles parking meters and other parking equipment. Overhauls, adjusts, and programs meters and pay stations. Cleans parking meters and pay stations both in field and shop. Inspects public parking lots for safety hazards, broken / dislodged wheel stops, and illegal activity. Installs meter poles, housings, and mechanisms. Coordinates removal and installation of parking meters, pay stations, and parking regulatory signs with contractors, inspectors, and other City personnel. Orders and inventories supplies and materials. Conducts parking studies and prepares reports as required. Keeps records of all collections, repairs, and shipments. Instructs other employees in the repair and maintenance of meters and pay stations. Performs maintenance on parking structures to include gate repair, sign installation, and fixtures replacement, and other related equipment. Maintains storage areas in the garages and at the City corporate yard. Works in adverse weather conditions. Performs related duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
:
Knowledge of:
Methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in parking meter and pay station repair. Basic safety precautions and procedures as required. Principles and practices of cash handling and secure transport. Basic electronic components and equipment. Computer programs and systems. Municipal policies related to parking services and meter collections. Ability to : Safely and effectively use hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in the installation, repair, and adjustment of parking meters and pay stations. Safely and effectively use mechanical skills, have good finger dexterity and the ability to problem solve. Stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, lift, and push frequently throughout a shift. Strictly adhere to safety and key control procedures during meter collections. Recognize and respond to potentially unsafe conditions in parking facilities. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors, and the general public. Work independently. Maintain accurate work records, prepare reports, and follow oral and written instructions. Meet physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties. Work in outdoor environments, performing work safely and efficiently. Lift heavy materials up to sixty-five pounds. Read, write, and do arithmetic. Follow written and oral instructions. Work with diverse populations and maintain an inclusive environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
: High School graduation or G.E.D. and Two years of work experience involving mechanical/electronic repair and cash collection, preferably in meter repair or closely-related field. or An equivalent combination of education and experience.
POSSESSION AND MAINTENANCE OF
A valid California class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
