Job Description
Performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of metering facilities. This is the entry level of the Apprentice Meter Worker program. The employee is expected to progress through the four-year apprentice program and become a Journeyman Meter Worker. Work is performed under close supervision of the Meter Supervisor. Journeyman, or Technician.
- Learn to use all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety procedures used in their apprentice track.
- Learn the materials and tools used in their apprentice track and the proper application and care of each.
- Learns basic methods and material of construction and maintenance.
- Satisfactorily complete the written curriculum for apprentice level I.
- Assist Journeyman and other Apprentices in the completion of day-day work.
- Tests, calibrates, repairs and installs single phase electric meters.
- Maintains records of test results, meter locations, and related information.
- Makes on-site testing of existing meter services.
- Performs related tasks as required.
- Possibility of out-of-town work (Mutual Aide).
- Must be able to respond to emergency situations within 60 minutes.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None- General knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, materials and tools used in the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution and metering systems.
- General knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with electrical distribution and metering duties and the safety precautions required.
- Ability to perform manual work and physical stamina to withstand working under adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions in both oral and written form.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
- Skill in the use and care of tools of the trade.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:
- Valid Florida Driver's License required.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- This position is Mission Critical during emergencies.

- This is physically demanding work requiring lifting and handling of equipment greater than 100 pounds.
- Assembles hardware for metering installations.
- The work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions with some indoor work required.
- Works with and around energized, high-voltage electric lines.
- Regularly works around heavy machinery and equipment.
Mental Demands:
- Must be able to communicate verbally clearly and concisely.
- Work under deadlines with constant interruptions
- Ability to study and learn written Apprentice Meter Worker curriculum and pass tests to show knowledge. May require study outside of regular working hours.
- Must have knowledge of the principles and practices of electric metering construction, operation, and maintenance.
- Must possess a general knowledge of all tools of the trade: apparatuses, devices, and vehicles.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Work Environment:

This job involves primarily outside work and is exposure to all weather conditions, with some inside work required. The employee regularly visits jobs sites, traverses rough, uneven terrain in active construction areas. Regularly works around heavy machinery and equipment.Other Duties:
