Metering Division :
The Metering Division of Finance is located at the Public Services Complex in Jacksonville. It is a service department that performs semiskilled work reading and repairing residential and commercial water meters. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Metering Supervisor. The salary posted is the full salary range for this position. The starting salary is expected to be in the range of $32,893.65 - $42,761.74 depending on qualifications. Reading and repairing meters; recording consumption; connecting/disconnecting service; preparing and maintaining records. (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.) Reads meters on assigned routes and records consumption. Basic computer skills to access emails, timesheets, reading software, etc. Ability to use computer programs to download /upload routes in the Legacy system. Keeps records of meters read and reports meters not accessible for reading. Checks to see that meters are correctly installed and functioning properly, checks for meter defects and leaks. Repairs and exchange meters; records change outs. Complete work orders in detail; relays information to billing. Processes work orders disconnects/reconnects service as needed. Obtains special readings as required; delivers door knockers. Maintain water meters, ERTs, and all COJ equipment; removes and resets various sizes of meter boxes. Sets new meters; changes out meters in field and system, is responsible to lock up meters and devices. Maintains records on meter change-outs; keeps inventory of parts, responsible to check out meters for inventory purposes. Performs related tasks as required. Must be available for standard monthly duty rotation. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Must possess an appropriate driver's license that is valid in the State of North Carolina. General knowledge of the methods and procedures involved in the reading of meters and recording consumption; general knowledge of the geography and street locations of the city; ability to accurately read and compare consumption; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public; ability to walk for continuous periods under varying climatic conditions. Physical Requirements This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm's length, operation of machines, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and atmospheric conditions.
