Southern Philadelphia About On The Mark Locators, Llc Our team and utility locating experts provide a full suite of state-of-the-art utility locating experience, designed to help your team avoid accidental underground strikes that can result in costly repairs, severe injury and lost time. Description Position Summary The Water & Sewer Field Marker is responsible for supporting underground utility marking operations for water and sewer infrastructure throughout South Philadelphia. This position involves responding to 811 locate requests by measuring, tracing, and marking underground water and sewer lines using measuring wheels, maps, paint sticks, and field documentation. This role focuses on accurately marking utility paths and maintaining compliance with Philadelphia Water Department and Pennsylvania One Call requirements. Key Responsibilities Utility Marking Operations Respond to assigned 811 / One Call tickets within required deadlines Mark underground water and sewer utility paths using paint sticks and flags Use measuring wheels to accurately measure distances and locate infrastructure Follow utility maps, field sketches, and directional notes for markings Ensure markings comply with APWA color code standards: Blue for potable water Green for sewer and drain lines Field Work Travel throughout South Philadelphia service areas daily Walk residential streets, sidewalks, alleys, and commercial properties Work outdoors in all weather conditions Maintain safe work practices near traffic and construction zones Documentation & Ticket Management Complete locate tickets accurately and on time Record measurements, notes, and field observations Report missing infrastructure information or unsafe conditions Maintain organized daily work logs Communication Communicate professionally with contractors, city personnel, and residents Coordinate with supervisors regarding complex or unclear locate requests Provide updates on completed and pending work assignments Coverage Area South Philadelphia Residential neighborhoods Commercial corridors City streets and public right-of-ways Required Qualifications Valid driver's license Ability to walk long distances daily Ability to work independently Basic map reading and directional skills Strong attention to detail Reliable attendance and punctuality Ability to work outdoors year-round Preferred Qualifications Experience with utility locating or construction Knowledge of Pennsylvania One Call system Familiarity with Philadelphia streets and neighborhoods Experience using measuring wheels and utility marking tools Basic understanding of water and sewer infrastructure Work Environment Outdoor field environment Heavy walking throughout shifts Exposure to traffic, weather, and uneven terrain Physical activity including bending, kneeling, and standing for long periods Equipment Used Measuring wheel Paint sticks and marking paint Utility flags Street maps and ticket information Safety vest and PPE Mobile phone or tablet for ticket updates Skills & Competencies Accuracy and consistency Time management Dependability Communication skills Safety awareness Ability to follow directions Independent work ethic Performance Expectations Complete assigned tickets daily Maintain accurate markings and measurements Follow all safety and city compliance requirements Maintain professional conduct in public areas Meet response time and quality standards Preferred Certifications OSHA 10 (preferred) Traffic safety awareness training Defensive driving certification (if operating company vehicle) Salary $21 - $25 per hour
