Are you looking for a job that keeps you active? Do you enjoy the outdoors? Water Meter Technician I may be the job for you! Water Meter Technician I performs physically demanding work reading meters. Read water meters on assigned routes and enter readings into the handheld computer. Water Meter Technician must have the ability to walk all day with constant bending and kneeling. Must be able to walk over 10 miles per day. Walking may be for several hours at a time in all kinds of weather. Must be able to visually read meters that may be flooded, muddy, scratched, and cloudy, etc. Accuracy in reading water meters is essential and required. Must have the ability to lift meter box lids that may weigh up to 15 lbs. and drive a vehicle. The candidate for Water Meter Technician I should have problem-solving skills for unexpected incidents which may occur while reading meters. Equipment used includes a city vehicle, handheld computer, screwdriver/pry bar, pump, 2-way radio, sight tube, and small hand trowel. Candidates may encounter dogs, bees, snakes, spiders, etc.

VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
: Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in accounting or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one month of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
: Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards.
