ABOUT BLT ENTERPRISES
The Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station provides residential and commercial recycling, solid waste disposal, and hazardous waste management service to the Tri-Cities community. Our facility is open to all members of the public as a one-stop location to recycle unwanted items, disposal services for non-recyclable waste, and for the safe management of common household hazardous waste. The Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station is owned and operated by BLT Enterprises. As developer, owner, and operator of Material Recovery Facilities and Transfer Stations throughout California, BLT's team has processed and/or recycled more than 11,000 tons of waste per day in Los Angeles, Burbank, Fremont, Oxnard, and Sacramento.

ABOUT THE JOB
This position supports the maintenance department by assisting with preventative maintenance tasks and light mechanical duties. Responsibilities include performing routine maintenance to prevent equipment failures, assisting with minor repairs, ensuring safe operations, and helping maintain equipment efficiency. The role offers hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance while supporting the team's overall operational goals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform lubrication of machinery, equipment, and vehicles in accordance with the preventative maintenance program.
  • Replace air, oil, and fuel filters on machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Adjust brakes and replace brake shoes as needed for safety and efficiency.
  • Replace worn or damaged hoses to maintain equipment functionality.
  • Assist in the replacement of springs and equalizers to support smooth operation.
  • Support mechanics with basic maintenance tasks, contributing to overall equipment upkeep.
  • Engage in light fabrication, welding, cutting, and other related tasks as required.
  • Conduct thorough equipment inspections to identify and address potential issues.
  • Replace burnt-out lights across the facility, vehicles, and equipment to ensure proper visibility.
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop environment through regular housekeeping.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
  • No specific diploma or GED required; however, the ability to read and comprehend facility safety signs and warnings is necessary.
  • A minimum of 1 year of mechanical experience is required.
  • Ability to perform all essential duties to a satisfactory standard.
  • Proficiency in understanding, reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Capability to operate a computer effectively.
  • Willingness to learn and grow in the role.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, walk, push, pull, stoop, crawl, lift, or crouch. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move objects weighing between 10 to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 75 pounds.
  • The work environment may involve exposure to typical facility conditions. Reasonable accommodation may be provided for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • Successful completion of a drug screening is required.
  • Proof of valid employment authorization is required.
  • Strong ability to collaborate and work effectively with team members across the organization.
SAFETY While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and household and commercial waste. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position requires company-provided safety equipment, and any additional personal protective equipment deemed necessary by the company to ensure a safe work environment. This may include a hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, uniform, safety vest, and safety boots. You must wear any other PPE provided by the company. There is an additional strong emphasis on the application of lockout/tagout procedures.
