NOTICE OF EXTERNAL JOB OPPORTUNITY POSTING
#LA-080-26E WASTEWATER TREATMENT SYSTEM MECHANIC
(Stationary Mechanic - Journey Level) The Sanitation Districts clean the wastewater of over 5 million people and turn it into resources 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Through the operation of 11 wastewater treatment facilities, approximately 510 million gallons per day (MGD) of wastewater are treated at these facilities and 165 MGD are available for reuse. The Palmdale Water Reclamation Plant (WRP) currently provides primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment for a design capacity of 12 million gallons of wastewater per day (MGD) and serves a population of approximately 150,000 people. We are now recruiting for a skilled Wastewater Treatment System Mechanic at our Palmdale Reclamation Plant. The essential functions of this position are to perform more skilled preventive repair and maintenance of stationary equipment and machinery in a wastewater treatment facility. This position operates on a 9/80 work schedule of Monday through Thursday (6:30am-4:00pm) and the working Friday (6:30am-3:00pm). Regular days off are alternating Fridays. Occasional after-hours work, overtime, and weekend call-backs may be required and will be compensated accordingly. Candidates must possess a valid California Class C driver license; - AND - Four years performing directly-related skilled maintenance or craft duties involving the repair and overhaul of a variety of comparable machinery and equipment. Twelve semester units of college coursework approved by the Districts or completion of one year of a two-year trade school in a mechanical technology or closely related program may be substituted for one year of the required experience; or graduation from a two-year trade school in a mechanical technology or closely related program may be substituted for two years of the required experience.NOTE:
The selected candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Class A or B California driver license within six (6) months. A crane certification from the State of California is also required. Crane certification involves attendance at training sessions, passing written and/or practical examinations and providing annual evidence of medical fitness. This training will be provided by the Districts and is mandatory for the individual who is selected for this position. In addition, the selected candidate must also enter the Respiratory Protection Program and attain theHAZWOPER
Technician level training. The competitive selection process may cover a k nowledge of : Methods, materials and tools used in the repair of large and complex mechanical equipment such as engines, compressors and pumps and their operation; use of precision test equipment and tools; hand tools, welding and cutting equipment, pipe cutters and threaders, valve grinders and various saws; occupational hazards and safety regulations of the trade. The ability to : Diagnose and repair a wide variety of mechanical equipment; read, interpret, and work from repair manuals and specifications; use specialized tools and equipment; and instruct apprentices in trade techniques.SELECTION PROCESS
