~4 Months (with potential for extension) Position Overview We are seeking 10 experienced Sandblasters to support a major project kicking off in Kittery, Maine. This is a high-demand, fast-moving opportunity within a government shipyard environment. Positions are available as contract or contract-to-hire, depending on candidate fit and project needs. Candidates must have 1-2 years of skilled sandblasting experience, including UHP (Ultra High-Pressure) blasting, and must hold a valid C13 certification. This project offers long-term potential for individuals who demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and strong technical ability. Per diem is available for qualified non-local candidates. Key Responsibilities- Perform sandblasting duties using UHP (Ultra High-Pressure) equipment
- Work safely and efficiently in a government shipyard environment
- Follow all site safety protocols, including PPE and respiratory requirements
- Complete assigned blasting tasks on schedule to support project timelines
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, project managers, and team members
- Maintain equipment and work areas in compliance with safety and quality standards Required Qualifications
- 1-2 years of professional sandblasting experience
- UHP experience required
- Valid C13 certification
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
- Ability to pass all required pre-employment screenings
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English
- Must be eligible for access to a government yard Pre-Employment Requirements All candidates must complete the following before starting:
- Audiogram
- OSHA 10 Maritime
- Respirator Fit Test
- MEQ (Medical Evaluation Questionnaire)
- Yard access approval (government background requirements to be confirmed) VSRA Safety for the MA region Once access is approved, candidates will complete on-site induction training. Compensation & Per Diem
- Local candidates: $26-$30 per hour based on experience
- Non-local candidates: $26 per hour + weekly per diem ($1080) Schedule
- Minimum 40+ hours per week
- Expected 5-6 days per week during project ramp-up
- Orientation preferred in Newport News for early starters (before June 1)
- Allows completion of per diem paperwork and travel coordination
- Candidates may be placed on another project temporarily before traveling to Maine Hiring & Onboarding Process
- Candidates must submit a resume for review
- Hiring manager will conduct interviews
- Upon selection, candidates will:
- Complete required screenings
- Request yard access
- Attend orientation
- Complete on-site induction training
