Come Join HII Where Hard Stuff Is Done Right! HII Platform Modernization (PM) trades teams provide expert solutions on US Naval Vessel alterations and installations for fleet modernization. The selected entry level Coatings and Preservation Assistant candidate will primarily support PM operations at the Woodlake Fabrication Shop in Chesapeake, VA, with possible, periodic local travel to shipyards and military bases to assist PM Trade Teams in fleet modernization. Limited out‑of‑town travel, up to 25%, may be required based on contract needs and trade skill requirements. Occasional weekend or evening work may be necessary to meet high‑volume or short‑notice deadlines.

Essential Job Responsibilities Display levels of quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement, responsibility and performance consistent with company values. Gain valuable trades and life experience as you learn and focus your skills through the direction of senior technical tradespersons. The selected candidate will support the team, under direction, assisting with the performance of duties primarily related to material coatings and preservation. Perform specific or general duties of lesser skill, such as supplying or holding materials and tools; cleaning working area, machine, and equipment; and performing diverse tasks as directed. Perform semi-skilled and unskilled laboring duties supporting the fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide array of systems and equipment. Apply job skills and company policies to complete a wide range of tasks that vary based on job, contract, customer requirements, specifications, etc. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have a valid drivers license and must provide own hand tools. Must be a U.S. citizen. Must be able to obtain medical clearance to wear a half-face respirator. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance. Preferred Requirements Prior Shipboard experience. Previous work related to technical trades. Candidates who hold a current or active DoD confidential clearance or higher. Candidate with related technical training, degrees, and/or certifications. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
