Job Description

Summary The Millwright is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing, installing, and rebuilding mechanical equipment and systems. This role supports plant operations by ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and performing both planned and emergency maintenance work on production and facility infrastructure. Essential Job Functions
  • Receive and execute work orders and instructions from maintenance leadership.
  • Inspect plant equipment to identify issues such as misalignment, wear, improper lubrication, and mechanical failures.
  • Diagnose equipment problems and determine appropriate repair methods to minimize downtime and maintain production continuity.
  • Dismantle, repair, replace, install, assemble, and lubricate mechanical equipment using blueprints, diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Perform precision alignment and assembly of gears, bearings, shafts, and related components.
  • Make temporary and permanent repairs to plant equipment, piping systems, and mechanical structures.
  • Install and modify equipment, including piping, valves, cylinders, and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs on hydraulic and mechanical systems.
  • Change, set up, and adjust production equipment including rolls, guides, rails, dies, and punches.
  • Fabricate and repair components through welding, cutting, grinding, and fitting processes.
  • Use torch or plasma cutting equipment to support maintenance and fabrication work.
  • Erect scaffolding and perform rigging using cranes, hoists, and lifting equipment.
  • Operate machine tools such as drill presses, saws, and threading machines to support repairs.
  • Perform general facility maintenance, including buildings and grounds upkeep.
  • Transport tools, materials, and equipment safely throughout the facility.
  • Test and verify equipment functionality following repairs or installation.
  • Identify and communicate when equipment requires shutdown to prevent further damage or safety risk.
  • Follow all safety procedures including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and plant safety protocols. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no direct supervisory responsibility. Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade certification preferred.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience as a millwright or industrial mechanic in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience with mechanical systems, hydraulics, and industrial equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Basic welding and fabrication experience required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of industrial equipment, maintenance practices, and repair techniques.
  • Proficiency in alignment, fitting, and assembly of mechanical components.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics, lubrication systems, and mechanical drives.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Experience with rigging, lifting equipment, and safe material handling.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to work independently or lead small teams for maintenance tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills in a plant environment. Working Conditions The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to safely and successfully perform the essential functions of this job consistent with federal, state, and local standards, including meeting productivity standards.
  • Regular standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout the shift
  • Occasional below waist level work, climbing, carrying, reaching over or away from the body, reaching above the shoulder, push/pull, and lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Regular use of computer systems for inventory management, work orders, purchasing, and reporting
