  • Full-time The Refrigeration / Boiler Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the ammonia refrigeration system and related equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to extreme cold. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and toxic or caustic chemicals. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls using appropriate PPE. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted, and frequently lift and/or move 51
  • 100 pounds with lifting equipment or with assistance.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be capable of climbing on the roof and interstitial spaces in all weather conditions to service various equipment and components as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitors, adjusts and logs ammonia systems pressures and temperatures.
  • Follows/creates EAM work orders to document compliance to PSM and overall maintenance of the system(s).
  • Assists in the repair and maintenance of all refrigeration related equipment including compressors, condensers, evaporator, pumps, valves, vessels and piping.
  • Assists in the repair and maintenance of the glycol system associated with the refrigeration system including pumps, valves, tanks and piping.
  • Assists in the repair and maintenance of the steam boiler and related equipment and piping.
  • Assists in the repair and installation of evaporator condensate drains.
  • Maintains HVAC systems based on EAM schedules or instructions given per manufactures recommendation or industry standards.
  • Ensures that all work activities are performed with attention to the highest standards for quality, safety and compliance with all appropriate legal and food safety requirements and a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ensures that all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) are followed and accurate.
  • Follows all company policies & procedures as well as the GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices).
  • Maintain a high level of safety awareness for an accident-free work place.
  • Reports any unsafe or hazardous work conditions or safety-related issues to Management.
  • Follows OSHA and EPA guidelines and procedures where applicable as well as additional agencies having oversight or jurisdiction.
  • Perform task as directed in a safe and professional manner demonstrating respect for others around you.
  • Ability to use CMMS (EAM) and required document information as requested.
  • Perform other job functions as needed
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
  • High school diploma, GED or trade school equivalent.
  • Two years Trade School in refrigeration field.
  • EPA certified for refrigerants or RETA (CARO.CIRO) a plus.
  • Two years Trade School in refrigeration field.
  • Ability to work overtime, irregular hours or rotating shifts.
  • Two to three years of experience in the following areas: Ammonia refrigeration, electrical and plumbing.
  • Ability to read and understand a pressure temperature chart.
  • Ability to use/read a multi-meter and refrigeration gauges.
  • Previous food manufacturing experience is helpful.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to write standard information into related paperwork.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Experience with Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment.
