Job Description

About Us Big Bend HVAC and Refrigeration is a small, fast-growing commercial refrigeration company serving restaurants, schools, and commercial kitchens across Davidson county. We care more about doing the job right than doing it fast. We pride ourselves on high-quality craftsmanship, attention to detail, and real connection — with our customers and each other. We take family time seriously, and we love fixing things, being of service, and learning how things work. Role Responsibilities Diagnose and repair commercial refrigeration: reach-in and walk-in refrigerators and freezers, serving lines, and ice machines. Work on equipment from brands like Heatcraft, Victory, True, Hoshizaki, and Piper. Perform electrical diagnosis — single-phase 220, three-phase 220, defrost clocks, fan motors, compressors, and capacitors. Braze, solder, evacuate, and recharge systems using a variety of refrigerants including R-134a, R-404A, R-438A, and R-407, as well as critically charged hydrocarbon systems using R-290 and R-600. Install compressors and perform mechanical repairs. Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration equipment. Complete minor plumbing repairs — walk-in drains, etc. Inspect refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing systems to identify service needs. Communicate service updates with store managers. Provide repair estimates and recommend equipment replacement when appropriate. Maintain van stock, tools, and required safety equipment. Occasionally calculate heat loads and capillary tube sizing to retrofit systems (we've already worked out most of the calculations). Qualifications 2 years minimum of hands-on experience with electrical diagnosis, refrigeration diagnosis, compressor installation, and mechanical repair. EPA Section 608 certification (Universal) — required. A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record (you will take a company van home). Willing to take part in a required weekend on-call rotation (shared across the team). Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen (hard drugs) and a background check. Someone who takes pride in their work and would rather do it right than do it fast. Comfortable with multiple refrigerants, including hydrocarbons (R-290/R-600). An automotive or mechanical background is a plus. Physical requirements Able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work on rooftops, and work in hot and cold environments. Benifits $30-$35/hour, depending on experience. Your own fully stocked van that you take home — you'll be dispatched from home. Independence on the job, with senior techs on tap whenever you need them. Paid drive time and paid training and certifications.
On-call pay:
a flat $150 for your on-call weekend just for being available, plus a 4-hour minimum per call-out at time-and-a-half — even if the job only takes 20 minutes. Holiday call-outs are paid at double time, and you're on the clock from the moment you leave home. A fast-growing company with real room to grow and learn new skills. Schedule Full-time, Monday-Friday, with a required weekend on-call rotation shared across the team on a set schedule.
Pay:
$30.00 - $45.00 per hour
Benefits:
Company truck Fuel card Tools provided
