Universal Certification Equipment installation HVAC/R Driver's License Driving EPA 608 Technician Certification Refrigeration EPA Universal Certification Full Job Description Position Summary The Service Technician, Senior at Nashville Refrigeration is a seasoned professional responsible for leading the maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and (as needed) installation of commercial refrigeration systems. This role is pivotal in ensuring the efficient operation of freezers, coolers, and ice machines used in supermarkets, restaurants, cold storage facilities, and industrial settings. The ideal candidate will leverage extensive hands-on experience and advanced diagnostic skills while mentoring junior technicians and upholding strict compliance with safety and environmental standards. Responsibilities Maintenance & Troubleshooting •
System Diagnostics:
Conduct thorough diagnostics on complex refrigeration systems, addressing electrical, mechanical, and refrigerant-related issues. •
Preventive Maintenance:
Perform scheduled maintenance and recommend system upgrades to improve energy efficiency and overall performance. •
Advanced Repair Techniques:
Utilize state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to detect leaks, test electrical circuits, and calibrate system controls for optimal functionality. Refrigerant Handling & Compliance •
Safe Refrigerant Management:
Handle, recover, and dispose of refrigerants in accordance with EPA regulations (EPA 608 Universal Certification required). •
Regulatory Adherence:
Ensure that all repairs and maintenance work comply with local, state, and federal environmental and safety guidelines. Leadership & Training •
Mentorship:
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level technicians. •
Team Leadership:
Lead troubleshooting and repair teams on complex service calls and projects. •
Safety Training:
Conduct on-site safety training and ensure that best practices are followed at all times. Customer Relations & Service Management •
Client Communication:
Serve as the primary point of contact for high-priority clients, ensuring timely updates on system status and maintenance requirements. •
Service Recommendations:
Offer professional advice on system improvements, energy efficiency measures, and regulatory compliance. •
Issue Escalation:
Proactively manage and resolve service issues, maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction. Installation & Commissioning (Optional Based on Expertise) •
System Setup:
Lead or assist in the installation and setup of commercial refrigeration systems, including walk-in coolers, freezers, ice machines, and rack refrigeration systems. •
Technical Interpretation:
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manufacturer specifications to ensure proper installation. •
Commissioning:
Oversee system start-ups and commissioning to verify functionality and efficiency. Accountabilities & Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) The accountabilities are the important functions that The Company depends on you doing well in a timely and efficient manner. The KPI's are some of the ways we will measure your performance of these duties. Accountability Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Labor Hours Utilization Achieve 95% labor hours utilization as measured by the QuickBooks payroll reporting system (i.e. 95% of the paid hours each week will be billable time to the customers). The expectation is to have 3-4 service calls per day depending on the complexity of the repairs required. Customer Relations and Satisfaction Zero negative feedback from customers based on the customer satisfaction surveys received for work completed. Quality Work Minimal (i.e. 0 or no more than 1 per month) callbacks by customers on work completed due to technician errors or oversights. Ontime Performance Always on time to work and to customer jobs providing timely information if unforeseen circumstances cause unavoidable delays. Teamwork Always a team player willing to assist fellow team members on customer jobs, in the office or shop and with training (formal & informal) on processes or equipment. Training & Knowledge Growth Demonstrated improvement in technical skills and proficiency through regular performance reviews using the Employee Skills Matrix rating scale. Housekeeping and Inventory Maintain truck cleanliness, organization and inventory to the SOP standard measured by monthly reviews by the Service Manager. Assist in shop housekeeping and order according to the SOP (weekly tasks, etc.). Timekeeping Daily accuracy on timecards for hours worked and timesheets for customer service calls.
Qualifications Required Experience:
Hands-On Experience:
A minimum of 5-10 years in commercial refrigeration installation, repair, and maintenance.
Certifications:
EPA 608
Universal Certification:
Required.
HVAC-R Certification or Equivalent:
Preferred.
OSHA 10/30
Safety Certification:
Preferred.
Technical Skills:
Comprehensive understanding of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, and mechanical components. Proven expertise in diagnosing and repairing compressors, evaporators, condensers, TXVs, and electrical control systems. Familiarity with rack refrigeration systems and modern HVAC control systems (PLCs, EMS).
Leadership & Communication:
Demonstrated ability to lead and train junior technicians while effectively managing multiple projects. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients, team members, and management.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. Comfortable working in confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and varied environments (e.g., rooftops, ladders, mechanical rooms). Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Competencies •

Ability to manage high-priority client relationships with professionalism and clarity. •
Technical Interpretation:
Skill in reading and applying blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation. •
Work Environment & Schedule Work Settings:
On-site work at commercial and industrial facilities including supermarkets, restaurants, food processing plants, and refrigerated warehouses.
On-Call & Travel:
Availability for on-call emergency service rotations, overtime, and occasional travel for projects outside the Nashville area.
Physical Demands:
Comfortable working in tight spaces, high elevations, and varying environmental conditions.
Pay:
$34.00 - $40.00 per hour
