Job Description
Service & Repair Engineer Biomed Simulation, Inc. San Diego, CA Job Details Temporary | Part-time $40 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications LabVIEW Knowledge management Firmware Attention to detail Problem management Project stakeholder communication Full Job Description Reporting Line This role reports to the Operations Manager, who oversees parts, supply availability, and the relationship with the company's contract manufacturing partner in Germany. Because the Operations Manager is not based on-site, this role demands exceptional written documentation and proactive, structured communication. Repair findings, parts and supply needs, and project status must be captured clearly enough to be understood and acted on remotely, without relying on in-person conversation. Attention to detail here is not a nice-to-have - it is how the operation runs. Founder & CTO The engineer also works closely, as needed, with the company's Founder and CTO - a leader with deep product history and authoritative command of the clinical and physiological behavior CALIFIA is designed to reproduce, who is not an engineer by background. The successful candidate is therefore self-sufficient on the engineering side: able to take his guidance on how a patient or device should behave and translate it into hardware and software diagnostics, asking sharp, well-framed questions rather than expecting board-level troubleshooting in return. What You'll Do Diagnostics & Root Cause Analysis (the core of the role) Triage incoming CALIFIA units, reproduce reported failures, and run structured diagnostics to localize the fault. Determine whether a problem is a hardware fault, a software/firmware fault, or a communication/integration issue between the control electronics and the LabVIEW application - and confirm which, with evidence rather than guesswork. Perform root cause analysis on recurring and high-impact failures, and capture findings in a form the team can act on. Hardware Service & Repair Bench-test and troubleshoot control boards/PCBAs, sensors (pressure, flow, level, temperature), valves, pumps, wiring harnesses, and connectors. Use standard lab instrumentation - digital multimeter, oscilloscope, bench power supply, function generator - to trace signals, verify power, and characterize components against expected behavior. Make board-level vs. component-level repair/replace decisions, perform or coordinate repairs, and verify each unit before it ships back. Documentation & Remote Communication Produce clear, consistent records of diagnostics, findings, repairs, and parts usage - written for a reader who is not in the room. Keep the off-site Operations Manager informed with proactive, structured status updates and well-defined parts and supply requests. Participate in the weekly service/ticketing review (HubSpot) and use ticket data to surface recurring issues and process gaps. Knowledge Transfer & Process Enablement Establish repeatable intake, triage, diagnostic, repair, and verification procedures, replacing today's informal approach. Train and mentor internal staff in repair and diagnostic techniques. Build the troubleshooting guides and reference documentation that allow that capability to stick.
