Job Description

JOB This position is responsible for the operation of motorized equipment in support of the installation, maintenance, and repair of the storm water system. Trains, supervises, and monitors the work of assigned personnel. Performs daily maintenance and safety inspection of assigned equipment. Assists crews with identifying cave-in ownership; assists other departments with vacuum and high pressure water services. Maintains inventory of all supplies and equipment. Operates a backhoe, tillers, dump truck, box blade, and chain saw. Participates in repair and maintenance activities; repairs cave-ins on storm sewer boxes; repairs cave-ins on storm sewer pipes; replaces pipe joints; operates a backhoe as needed; replaces broken grates and inlets; removes trees from roadways; builds inlet boxes; repairs brick walkways. Completes required records. Performs other related duties as assigned.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the storm water system. Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the storm water system. Skill in the investigation and resolution of drainage problems. Skill in implementing policies and procedures. Skill in problem solving and decision making. Skill in management and supervision. Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations. Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color. The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
