Job Description

This position is vital to the day to day operations of the Mail Room at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. The individual will be responsible for processing incoming and outgoing mail.
Processes incoming mail:
stamps date and time of receipt into mailroom; sorts mail for distribution; delivers interoffice mail to County departments; and transports mail to satellite facilities. Processes outgoing mail for delivery to post office: sorts mail by type and/or destination; weighs mail to determine correct postage; seals envelopes by hand or with postage machine; and imprints date and postage using postage machine and postage meter. Calculates postage rates and additional fees such as registered mail, insured mail, returned receipt requests, priority mail, express mail, etc.
Processes packages for shipping:
inspects packages for appropriate labeling/addressing; weighs and measures boxes; prepares bills of lading or other shipping documentation; and delivers to shipping companies/representatives.
Performs customer service functions:
provides information and assistance related to department services, activities, procedures, fees, forms, or other issues; responds to questions/complaints; and researches problems and initiates problem resolution. Prepares bulk mail-outs, sorting, counting and batching pieces; Learns mail routes. Maintains logs and reports of mail activity, such as business reply and postage due.
Processes packages for shipping:
inspects packages for appropriate labeling/addressing; weighs and measures boxes; prepares bills of lading or other shipping documentation; and delivers to shipping companies/representatives. Records returned mail and maintains accurate records on money orders, check transactions and receipts. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of experience in customer service, mail service or related field.

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must be able to obtain defensive driver certification.

Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Sensory Requirements Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
