JOB SUMMARY
The role of Residential Technician performs the installation, service, and repair of residential garage doors and openers with limited supervision. This role is responsible for completing standard jobs independently, ensuring high-quality workmanship, safe work practices, and exceptional customer service. The scope of technical work requires accuracy, communication, and efficiency to deliver high-quality workmanship and customer service that aligns with the company's standards and mission. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
This role is responsible for routine installations and repairs, accurately measuring and adjusting door systems, troubleshooting basic issues, and supporting jobsite safety and customer communication standards. Perform basic Installs, service, and repairs of residential garage doors, sections, tracks, hardware, springs, cables, drums, rollers, weather seals, and opener systems. Primary focus is new construction installations and service. Perform standard replacements and one-person door/opener replacements within allotted time using correct tools, methods, and safety practices. Accurately measure openings, track alignment, door balance, and spring tension; make necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation. Diagnose routine service issues such as misalignment, sensor faults, damaged hardware, force adjustments, or opener programming errors. Program remotes, keypads, and smart-enabled opener technology according to manufacturer and company standards. Maintain organized, well-stocked trucks; secure tools, equipment, and materials following company procedures. Follow all PPE and OSHA 10 safety practices; proactively identify and report unsafe conditions or equipment issues. Ensure each job site is safe, clean, and free of debris before and after work is completed. Use internal systems and technology solutions to clock in/out, document work performed, record parts used and provide clear service notes. Communicate professionally with customers, answering basic questions and explaining work performed with clarity and professionalism. This role requires regular travel between customer locations and job sites during the workday. Technicians must operate a company vehicle with a valid driver's license and transport tools, parts, and equipment as needed to perform service work. The ability to travel independently to assigned locations in a timely manner is an essential function of this position. Skill proficiency in using hand and power tools; ability to safely use drills, wrenches, sockets, ladders, impact tools, torque tools to complete installations and repairs independently. Knowledge of residential garage door systems, including parts, rollers, tracks, springs, hinges, cables, drums, bearing plates, opener systems, sensors and weather seals. Ability to understand jobsite safety such as PPE, ladder safety, lockout/tagout basics, pinch-point awareness, and safe torsion spring handling. Skill in clear and respectful communication with lead technicians, homeowners, and office staff; ability to document job notes accurately within internal systems. Ability to accurately measure openings, level tracks, set spring tension, balance doors and ensure proper operation of installed systems with minimal supervision. NOTE:
For internal team members, the completion of the ADVANCE Residential Technician Training Program for apprentices must be completed. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Worksites typically at residential customer homes, garages, and driveways. Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and humidity. Frequent work in confined or tight spaces, such as low-clearance garages or storage areas. Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and working in awkward positions. Work may involve dust, debris, loud noise, and mechanical equipment. Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver 50-75 lbs. regularly (garage door sections, tools, equipment). Regular use of ladders (up to 12-14 feet) for installation and repairs. Requires visual acuity to read measurements, align tracks, handle wiring, and identify mechanical issues. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent is required. One to two years of experience in residential garage door installation or a related mechanical trade preferred. Vocational or technical training in mechanics, construction, electrical, welding or related fields is a plus but is not required . A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record is required.
