Job Title:
Service Technician Job Description This role focuses on installing, retrofitting, starting up, and servicing online sample systems, sample conditioning systems, and related instrumentation used in power and other industrial environments. The Service Technician follows established procedures and work instructions to deliver high-quality service, ensures timely and accurate reporting to customers, and supports continuous improvement by identifying new product and service opportunities. The position involves frequent travel to customer sites and requires a strong blend of mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills. Responsibilities Participate in the execution of installation and retrofit projects for online sample systems, sample conditioning systems, and instrumentation in power and other industries. Perform installation, startup, repair, and service activities using established work instructions, methods, and procedures. Primarily service units that have already been installed, ensuring they operate reliably and meet customer expectations. Complete 100% on-time service reports for customers, documenting work performed, findings, and recommendations accurately and promptly. Utilize established information technology tools to communicate with customers and internal teams, deliver service reports, and manage individual schedules. Recommend new product and service ideas that enhance value for new and existing customers. Identify gaps in schedules and propose ways to fill downtime with value-added activities, discussing options with the Service Supervisor and/or Service Manager. Perform troubleshooting on electrical and mechanical components of sample systems and instrumentation using hand tools, test equipment, and technical documentation. Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to support installation, repair, and maintenance tasks. Conduct field service work at customer sites, including regional travel, to diagnose issues and implement effective solutions. When not traveling, complete administrative tasks and paperwork to ensure a full 40-hour workweek, including report preparation, documentation, and planning. Adhere to safety standards and company procedures while working both at headquarters and at customer locations. Coordinate with customers to align service activities with their schedules and minimize operational disruptions. Maintain a professional demeanor while representing the company at customer sites and in all communications. Essential Skills Demonstrated mechanical or electrical aptitude with at least 2 years of relevant experience. Ability to perform installation, startup, repair, and service on online sample systems, sample conditioning systems, and instrumentation. Proficiency with electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, including the use of hand tools and basic test equipment. Capability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation. Experience in field service or service technician roles involving on-site customer support and equipment maintenance. Strong organizational skills to manage individual schedules and complete service reports on time. Comfort with using information technology tools to communicate with customers, submit reports, and manage workflow. Valid driver's license and ability to travel at least 50-60% of the time, including regional travel to customer sites. Willingness to work primarily on already installed units and perform both hands-on technical work and administrative tasks. Ability to work standard early-day hours (e.g., around 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) while accommodating variable customer schedules. Commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction in all service activities. Additional Skills & Qualifications A 2-year technical degree in electronics or mechanical disciplines is preferred but not required. Experience working in power or other industrial environments is beneficial. Experience in installation and field service of complex mechanical or electrical systems is an advantage. Familiarity with online sample systems, sample conditioning systems, or similar process instrumentation is a plus. Comfort working independently in the field and collaborating with supervisors and managers to optimize schedules and service delivery. Ability to be based remotely, with preference for candidates located near Wisconsin or within reasonable distance for regional travel. Why Work Here? Work Environment The standard schedule runs roughly from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with variability based on customer needs and travel requirements. The role involves significant regional travel, with approximately 50-60% or more of time spent at customer sites, where conditions may vary depending on the facility and industry. Candidates may work remotely, with a preference for those located as close to Wisconsin as possible to support regional travel. Overtime is available, and when not traveling, technicians complete administrative tasks and paperwork to maintain a full 40-hour workweek. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Oconomowoc, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $76000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
