Job Title:
Service Technician Job Description The Service Technician maintains and troubleshoots parking payment equipment at the component level, ensuring reliable operation across assigned locations in the Los Angeles area. This role involves installing, upgrading, and removing pay stations, performing preventive maintenance, managing parts inventory, and documenting all work in support tickets. The technician provides on-site customer service, collaborates with city personnel, and ensures that all meters operate correctly for various payment methods and rates. Responsibilities Travel to assigned service calls on parking meters and kiosks to troubleshoot issues, identify root causes, and implement effective resolutions. Perform maintenance and component-level repairs on parking payment equipment, including electrical, mechanical, and assembly-related tasks. Install new meters and pay stations, including providing level one maintenance and operational training for new installations. Conduct preventive maintenance on meters as required to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Check all electrical and mechanical connections and verify power supply when servicing any meter. Use a mobile application to receive, review, and manage service tickets, including understanding the issue and location for each kiosk or station. Update technician support tickets with detailed troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and parts replaced to ensure accurate records. Follow up on open service tickets daily to confirm that all issues are fully resolved and properly documented. Test all assigned meters daily to ensure proper operation for all payment types and rates. Replace damaged decals and remove graffiti from meters when found to maintain a clean and professional appearance. Conduct daily inventory swaps by exchanging faulty parts for functional parts to keep equipment operational. Ensure service tickets include accurate information for billing purposes, including service call time, travel time, and parts used. Perform monthly inventory checks on the service truck to maintain appropriate stock levels of tools and parts. Schedule maintenance for the company vehicle as needed to ensure safe and reliable transportation. Drive and navigate effectively, efficiently, and safely in the downtown Los Angeles urban environment to meet daily service targets. Communicate professionally with customers and city employees to keep kiosks and stations running properly and to provide clear updates on service status. Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, governmental regulations, and related documentation as needed for equipment and operations. Write clear reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals related to service activities and equipment maintenance. Present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public as needed. Apply logical and scientific thinking to diagnose complex technical problems, including working with nonverbal symbols such as formulas, diagrams, or technical schematics. Prioritize tasks and manage multiple service calls and projects simultaneously to meet daily performance expectations. Essential Skills Hands-on experience with electrical systems, including the ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical components in parking payment equipment. Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform a variety of repairs on pay stations and related hardware. Field service experience, including working independently on customer sites and managing multiple service calls per day. Proficiency in troubleshooting, including using logical and scientific thinking to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical procedures, and governmental regulations relevant to equipment and operations. Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for installation, maintenance, and repair tasks. Strong written communication skills, including the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to update and manage technician support tickets, documenting troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and parts used. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced field environment. Ability to drive and navigate safely and efficiently in an urban environment, particularly in downtown Los Angeles. Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat and rain, for the duration of the shift. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience performing preventive maintenance on electro-mechanical equipment or kiosks. Experience with parking meters, kiosks, or other payment systems in a field service capacity. Familiarity with using mobile applications or field service software to receive, manage, and close service tickets. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables, including nonverbal symbolism such as formulas, scientific equations, and graphs. Experience conducting inventory management, including daily part swaps and monthly truck inventory checks. Experience coordinating vehicle maintenance schedules for service or company vehicles. Work Environment This position operates primarily outdoors throughout the Los Angeles region, with a focus on downtown and surrounding urban areas. The typical schedule runs Monday through Friday, starting between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m. and ending between 2:00 and 2:30 p.m., with flexibility to work up to approximately 10 additional hours per pay period as needed, potentially extending some days to 5:00 p.m. Technicians can expect to complete an average of 4 to 6 service tickets per day. New hires train alongside another technician for about a month before transitioning to handling most calls independently. Work involves regular exposure to all weather conditions, including heat and rain, and requires comfort working outside for extended periods. Each morning, technicians report to the office to pick up their service truck, tools, and daily route before heading into the field. The role involves frequent use of hand tools, power tools, and mobile applications to service meters and document work, with a strong emphasis on safety, reliability, and professionalism in a busy urban environment. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Los Angeles, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $54000.00 - $62400.00/yr.
