Job Description

Augustana University invites applications for the position of Science Equipment Repair Technician. This full-time support staff position is responsible for the repair, maintenance, fabrication, and construction of scientific equipment and custom projects supporting the universitys science and engineering programs. The successful candidate will also assist with building systems and technical operations within the Froiland Science Center.

Primary responsibilities include:

Repairing and maintaining a wide variety of scientific equipment and instruments used within the Froiland Science CenterDesigning and fabricating custom electro/mechanical equipment projectsAssisting with building-related computer equipment and systems, including door access systems, lighting software, classroom computers, projectors, and related technologySupporting the brewing and fermentation program with equipment upkeep, cleaning, and sterilizationResearching and procuring replacement parts and materials within budgetReceiving and distributing building deliveriesAssisting with machine shop and fabrication projects for Life Sciences, Pure and Applied Sciences, and Engineering programsSupporting building maintenance and room set-up/tear-down needs as time permitsRequired qualifications include:

Associate degree in electronics or a related field, or equivalent training, highly desirableBasic knowledge of analog and digital electronicsExperience repairing, modifying, or building scientific equipment preferredAbility to read schematics and troubleshoot electronic and mechanical systemsExperience using tools and equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, hand and power tools, mill, lathe, welder, band saw, table saw, and routerStrong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skillsAbility to work independently and effectively prioritize multiple projects in a hands-on technical environmentDemonstrated proficiency with computers, software applications, and common audiovisual technologies, with the ability to troubleshoot and provide basic support for equipment such as projectors, presentation systems, and related building technologies.

The successful candidate must possess strong technical troubleshooting abilities and enjoy solving challenging problems in a collaborative academic environment. Interacting with students, faculty, staff, and external vendors from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, along with a deep appreciation for and respect for academic values and culture, must be a top priority for the successful candidate.
