Job Description

Overview The Public Works Technician II
  • Channel are responsible for the preventative and corrective maintenance of the Storm Water infrastructure and drainage system operations. This position operates various maintenance equipment in an effort to meet the yearly goals of channel maintenance and repairs. Responsibilities
  • Obeys all traffic laws while operating fleet vehicles and equipment from one location to another
  • Follows all city policies and traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide
  • Operates on even or uneven terrain such as streets and earthen rights-of-ways
  • Performs daily pre/post trip inspections on all types of equipment and vehicles
  • Directs traffic control at job site by flagging, cones, barrels and barricades
  • Setup message boards, water barriers, Type I, II, Ill barricades during normal & emergency operations
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains storm water mains, inlets, and water manholes
  • Operates crew truck, mini excavator, backhoe, dump truck, tractor-trailer, truck and trailer combinations, transporting heavy equipment/ machinery, and perform confined space work
  • Ensures work site safety and trench safety practices are followed
  • Logs time, materials, equipment and inputs work performed in Maximo
  • Investigates issues reported on the drainage systems
  • Responds to after-hours and weekends emergencies
  • Works On-Call Duty rotation schedule and must be able to work different rotation shifts under emergency responses
  • Performs with a professional mind set and must be able to lead a team, if needed
  • Keeps materials stock in vehicles assignment, must communicate when supply/materials are low
  • Works in high traffic areas, confined spaces and/or elevated conditions
  • Evaluates safe work conditions
  • Communicates with internal or external customers
  • Ensures proper communication with the foreman, work coordinator, planner/scheduler, and assistant director
  • Completes legible daily reports and work orders Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

  • Must be available to work additional hours as needed
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Two (2) years of experience Licenses and Certifications Required
  • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring Required within six (6) months of hire
  • Certification in Traffic Control & Flagging
  • Certification in Confine Space
  • Certification in Trenching and Shoring Preferred
  • Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License Employment Testing Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below:
