ABOUT RICH EARTH
The Rich Earth Institute is a research and demonstration non-profit in Brattleboro, Vermont with the mission: to engage in research, education and technological innovation to advance the use of human waste as a resource. Started in 2012, the Institute operates the country's first community-scale waste recycling program to collect human urine and process it into a fertilizer product that is supplied to local farms. Funded by the USDA, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research, the Institute collaborates with various academic and industry partners; building innovative technologies, conducting rigorous agronomic field trials, publishing research and conducting educational outreach. One of our outreach tools and source for urine is our fleet of compost portable toilets.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a Portable Toilet Service Technician for our fleet of compost portable toilets which we deploy regionally to festivals, events, and construction sites. We are seeking a technician for Friday service needs with the potential for a second weekday depending on availability and need. This position is currently seasonal (April•Oct.) with the potential for continued winter hours and/or growth into longer term administrative and managerial responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Dropping off, picking up, and servicing a fleet of compost portable toilets. Service Technicians are responsible for operating pumping equipment, conducting cleaning tasks, and following safety protocols for managing human waste.
QUALIFICATIONS
Truck & trailer driving skills Mechanical aptitude Competence with standard hand and power tools Attention to detail Team player•Collaborative and solution-based Comfort in interacting with the general public Able to take initiative and take direction Ability to lift 50 pounds
SALARY AND SCHEDULE
Starting wage is $20•25 an hour depending on experience with room for advancement. This is a seasonal position (April•Oct.) with all (or most) hours occurring on Fridays. Future opportunities include portable toilet administration and management positions.
