JOB SUMMARY
The Technician II is a skilled low-voltage technician responsible for installing, terminating, and testing structured cabling systems and related communications infrastructure in commercial and industrial environments. Building upon the foundation of Technician II, this position requires the ability to perform assigned tasks with minimal supervision while ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency. The Technician II supports the Foreman, Lead Technician, and Technician III in coordinating daily work, mentoring junior installers, and maintaining adherence to Kearney Electric's Pathways to Excellence mission and core values of Trust, Team, Grit, and Growth.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Direct and assist the daily activities of Technician I installers and helpers. Coordinate tasks, materials, tools, and equipment requirements with supervisor or lead technician. Perform installations of copper and fiber structured cabling systems, including pathways, supports, terminations, and testing. Read and interpret blueprints, labeling diagrams, and technical documentation. Ensure all work meets TIA/EIA, NEC, and manufacturer specifications. Oversee small project tasks or areas of responsibility under the direction of a Technician III, Lead Technician or Foreman. Maintain accurate records of testing, labeling, and documentation. Promote a clean, organized, and safe job site; maintain responsibility for assigned tools and gang box key control. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding progress, challenges, and material needs. Attend and participate in required safety and quality meetings; promote and enforce company policies and standards. Set the pace for assigned crews and model professional conduct, workmanship, and a positive attitude. Perform additional duties as assigned in support of project and company goals.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to work outdoors year-round in various weather conditions typical to Arizona (heat, cold, dust, wind). Ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and structures, and work at heights exceeding 30 feet. Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally heavier with assistance. Requires manual dexterity to handle tools, materials, and electrical components. Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, or walk for extended periods. Must follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations without exception. Required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as dictated by site safety requirements (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, boots, high-visibility clothing, etc.). Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment for all crew members. Must communicate effectively (verbal and written) with team members, supervisors, and clients. Ability to complete daily reports, timecards, and material requests accurately. Expected to model professionalism, teamwork, and integrity at all times. Must adhere to company policies, including attendance, conduct, and ethics standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
: Minimum 2 years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field. High school diploma or GED required. Strong knowledge of CAT6, CAT6A, fiber optic, riser, and plenum-rated cabling types. Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, and quality requirements. Proven skill level in testing, labeling, and troubleshooting communications systems. Possess a basic understanding of NEC Codes, EIA/TIA standards, and OSHA regulations. Ability to lead, train, and mentor junior technicians.
LICENSES/SPECIAL TRAINING
Industry/vendor certifications (BICSI Installer I or II, manufacturer training) preferred. OSHA 10-Hour certification required; OSHA 30-Hour preferred. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
