This role includes low voltage work, such as installing fire alarm systems, running conduit, and fiber splicing, to support diverse projects. Technicians use telecom systems, low voltage infrastructure, and power tools to provision, install, and repair telephones, headsets, and WiFi access points in various environments, while also preparing quotes, estimates, and proposals, and coordinating job materials and permits.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Install, maintain, and repair telecommunications lines, including telephones, voice mail, fax, security, internet, and wireless systems. Set up and test low voltage systems, bending and running conduit, pulling CAT 6 cable, fire alarm cable, and fiber, and installing fire alarm panels, strobes, and sirens. Perform fiber splicing in trays and dress up and punch down CAT 6 cables at patch panels for organized communication rooms. Install RJ-45 connectors on CAT 6 cables and set up interior and exterior WiFi access points. Test CAT 6 cables with Lantek testers, monitor systems, and troubleshoot issues in telecom and low voltage equipment. Prepare quotes, estimates, and proposals, order job materials, and schedule permit appointments for projects. Follow diagrams, specifications, and safety standards (e.g., NEC, OSHA) to add dedicated circuits, run data and electrical cables with conduit, and complete installations. Clean up and organize comm rooms by updating patch cords and removing outdated cables and panels. Install whips for desks and outlets, operate reach trucks for material handling, and use Microsoft Office for reporting and coordination. Provide exceptional client service during field visits and document issues and solutions for future reference.
REQUIREMENTS 2-3
years of experience in telecom and low voltage installation, including running CAT 6, fire alarm cable, and fiber, with skills in fiber splicing and fire alarm panel setup. Proficiency with power tools, testers, and techniques for bending conduit, installing RJ-45s, and dressing up cables at patch panels. Ability to interpret diagrams and specifications, order materials, and coordinate permit appointments. Strong skills in preparing quotes, estimates, and proposals, using Microsoft Office for documentation and planning. Knowledge of safety standards and codes (e.g., NEC, OSHA) for telecom, fire alarm, and electrical work. Experience installing interior and exterior WiFi access points and operating reach trucks in varied work environments. Bilingual in English and Spanish, with some French proficiency, for effective client communication.
