Job Description
City of Elmhurst Employment Opportunity Emergency Vehicle Lighting and Communication Equipment Upfitter Position Summary Performs technical level work related to the installation, removal, repair, and maintenance of electronic equipment. Essential Functions
- Diagnose, repair, removal and installation of emergency lighting, communication systems and related equipment.
- Proficient in full installation of emergency lighting and integrated lighting, such as Whelan Carbide and Core.
- Proficient with in-vehicle data systems, including in-car printers.
- Proficient with in-car camera systems, such as Axon.
- Develop equipment specifications/placement for City vehicles/assets scheduled for assembly or decommissioning internally or by outside vendors.
- Estimates materials, parts, tools and equipment needed for work assignments; orders and picks up materials and supplies from outside vendors as appropriate; prepares cost estimates for vehicle/equipment set up or related assignments.
- Inspects and reconditions, programs systems and equipment. Repairs or orders and replaces components.
- Reads diagrams, blueprints, specifications and manuals for installation and repair projects.
- Maintains and services instrumentation testing/repairing equipment, using hand and power tools.
- Maintains and updates inventory of frequently used parts and supplies.
- Ensures that proper safety precautions are followed.
- Maintains records/diagrams of work performed and materials used.
- Drives City vehicles to work sites and transports materials as required.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions, directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
- Principles, methods and materials used in the installation, repair and maintenance of a variety of electronic communications, equipment and systems.
- Design and maintenance of communications systems.
- Operation of electronic test equipment.
- FCC guidelines.
- Practices and techniques related to telecommunications operations.
- Communication and computer technology.
- Methods of installation, configuration and repair of mobile radio communications systems and equipment.
- Operation and maintenance of a variety of hand, power and shop tools and test equipment used in the trade.
- Safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work.
- Shop mathematics.
- Basic job estimation.
- Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.
- Record keeping principles and practices.
- Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Techniques for dealing with staff, in person and over the telephone. Proficient in first responder radio data terminals messaging and communication.
- Operating and maintaining communications equipment.
- Designing, laying out and preparing sketches for communications and emergency systems and related installation and maintenance jobs.
- Estimating necessary materials, parts and equipment to complete assignments.
- Safely using and maintaining hand and power tools and test equipment related to the work.
- Maintaining accurate records of work performed
- Reading and interpreting manuals, specifications, drawings and blueprints.
- Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
- Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
Salary and Benefits Salary Range:
$38.94-$58.41/hourDOQ. FLSA
