STARTING DAY
ONE and promote from within! About the Position After initial training is completed, the utility locator/SUE technician is working under the direction of a field manager and is assigned to worksites to conduct utility locating and surveying for surface, subsurface, and aerial utilities. Utility locators/SUE Technicians are responsible for the correct, safe, and efficient locating of underground utilities including telecommunications, electric, power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems. This includes taking time to thoroughly search for underground utilities in an area, properly marking the location, and completing the necessary paperwork in accordance with company guidelines. General Experience in/willingness to learn technical utility locating. Ability to listen to, understand, and follow directions. Ability to remain flexible as specific assignments change. Ability to work with a variety of personalities. Basic knowledge of surveying best practices/willingness to learn. GPR Utility Locating knowledge and experience/willingness to learn Proficiency in reading maps, records, and plan sets Understanding of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) procedures/willingness and ability to learn Working knowledge of Excel, Word, and PDF editor Must have good communication skills (verbal and written) and attention to detail Physical Must be able to walk, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds. Must have the ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces. Must have the ability to stand/walk for up to eight hours a day Must have the ability to see and respond to external influences, including hazardous environments. Must have the ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day. Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas. Work Environment Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Must be able to work in a confined space. Must be available to work overtime and some weekends & travel as needed.Job Summary:
Three step management in training program. After initial training is completed, the utility locator works under the direction of a field manager and is assigned to worksites to conduct utility locating and surveying for surface, subsurface, and aerial utilities. Uses electronic equipment to locate and mark gas, water, sewer, phone, power, and CATV lines. Monday - Friday travel depending on where the work is located.Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Follow the standard operating procedures for: Field Targeting Locating Targeting Field Sketching Test Hole Documentation Correct use, technique, and maintenance of the following equipment et. al.: Metrotech 810 Pipehorn Direct Connect Reading tapes, rulers, and maps Utilivac Air compressor, air tamper, air lance, and jack hammer Follow the administrative procedures: Completing timecard correctly Filing out the vehicle log correctly Filling out credit card reconciliation correctly Complete chapters and chapter tests in the training manual review.Similar jobs in Baltimore, MD
