Kansas City Metro / Grandview, MO 64030 — travel within region; nationwide growth aheadPay:
per hour, depending on experience (plus per diem, vehicle, and overtime when traveling)Job Type:
Full-time Schedule:
Day shift, occasional after-hours and weekend work for cutovers Read this before you apply. We are not looking for someone to fill a seat. We are looking for the right person, the kind of technician who notices when a cable run isn't clean, who labels a rack because they'd want the next tech to be able to read it, who treats the customer's building like their own. That kind of person is rare. We know it. And we'd rather wait six months to find them than hire the wrong person tomorrow. If that sounds like you, keep reading. About Edelman-Campbell Security ECS is the security division of a fast-growing family of companies based in Kansas City. We design, install, service, and support commercial security systems, surveillance, access control, intrusion, intercom, networking, and everything in between. We do work for national integrators like Stone Security as a trusted subcontractor, and we run a strong, growing book of our own business serving healthcare, education, retail, industrial, and corporate clients across the Midwest. Our sister company, Edelman-Lyon Automatic Door , has been a leader in commercial automatic doors and hardware for over 75 years across six Midwest states. Together, ECS and Edelman-Lyon offer customers a complete entrance solution, doors, hardware, access, surveillance, and intrusion, which gives our technicians a steady, diversified workload that you won't find at most security-only shops. We're actively scaling toward a national footprint over the next decade. That growth is the real opportunity here, there is room to move up, lead crews, run regions, and build something with us. What you'll actually be doing This is a hands-on field role. No two days look exactly alike, but on any given week you'll be doing a mix of: Surveillance systems — IP camera installs, terminations, configuration, NVR setup, focus and field-of-view tuning, replacements and upgrades. Access control — Card readers, electric strikes, mag locks, REX devices, door contacts, request-to-exit, controllers, panels, programming schedules, credential management, and tie-ins to door hardware (where our sister company shines). Low-voltage cable — Pulling, terminating, dressing, testing, and labeling Cat5e/Cat6/fiber. Ladder work, lift work, conduit runs, fishing walls. Rack & equipment work — Building out racks, mounting and terminating switches, NVRs, controllers, head-end gear, UPS systems. Clean cable management matters here. Networking — VLAN basics, IP addressing, switch configuration, troubleshooting connectivity between cameras, controllers, and back-end systems. You don't need to be a network engineer, but you need to be comfortable on a laptop with a manufacturer's portal. Programming & commissioning — Setting schedules, holiday calendars, user permissions, camera analytics, motion zones, and walking the customer through the system before you leave. Service & troubleshooting — Diagnosing failed components, identifying root cause (not just symptoms), and documenting the repair clearly enough that the next person can pick up where you left off. Customer interaction — You will be the face of ECS on every job site. We expect clean appearance, clear communication, and the kind of professionalism that gets us called back. What we look forRequired:
2+ years of hands-on experience in low-voltage, security, IT cabling, or a closely related trade Working knowledge of at least one major access control platform (Brivo, Avigilon, Genetec, Lenel, S2, Honeywell, ProdataKey, etc.) and at least one major camera line (Axis, Hanwha, Avigilon, Hikvision, etc.) Comfortable reading floor plans, riser diagrams, and basic wiring schematics Networking fundamentals — IP addressing, switch ports, basic troubleshooting Valid driver's license and a clean driving record Able to lift 50 lbs, work on ladders and lifts, work in unfinished spaces, and pass a background check Able to manage your own time on-site, communicate updates back to the office, and document your work in our dispatch software Bonus points: ESA, NICET, or manufacturer certifications (Avigilon, Genetec, Axis, etc.) Fiber termination experience (fusion or mechanical) Door hardware familiarity — electric strikes, mag locks, exit devices, electrified hinges Experience working in healthcare, K-12, or other compliance-driven environments Worked as a sub for a national integrator before (Stone Security, Convergint, ADT Commercial, etc.) What we expect You show up. On time. Every day. You take ownership of your work. If you broke it or missed it, you say so. You leave job sites cleaner than you found them. You respect the customer, your crew, and the trade. You don't cut corners on safety or quality, even when nobody's watching.Compensation & Benefits Pay:
We pay for what you bring to the table — not what's on a generic chart. Overtime at time-and-a-half for all hours over 40 Per diem and travel pay for out-of-town work Company vehicle (for qualified technicians) Health, dental, and vision insurance — for employee and family 401k retirement plan with company match Paid time off plus paid holidays Performance-based raises and bonuses — not uncommon and tied directly to what you contribute Specialty tools, uniforms, and PPE provided Paid certifications and continuing education — we'll invest in you if you're investing in yourself Edelman-Campbell Security is an Equal Opportunity Employer. What was the scope, who was involved, and what made it challenging? Why are you considering leaving your current role (or why did you leave your last one)? What's one area of this work where you'd want training or support if you joined our team? Describe how you document your work at the end of a job.
