Job Description

Job Summary Join our dynamic Public Safety Communications team as a Public Safety Communications Officer! In this vital role, you will serve as the critical link between emergency responders, law enforcement agencies, medical teams, and the public. Your energetic and proactive approach will ensure swift, accurate communication during emergencies, helping to safeguard our community. You will operate multi-line phone systems, dispatch emergency services, and provide essential support through phone triage and data entry. Your expertise in communication, analysis, and conflict management will be key to maintaining safety and order in high-pressure situations. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a real difference every day! Duties Operate multi-line phone systems efficiently to handle incoming calls from the public, emergency responders, and other agencies Dispatch law enforcement, fire services, medical teams, and security personnel promptly based on priority and location data Conduct phone triage by gathering critical information from callers to assess situations accurately and determine appropriate responses Utilize GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools and GPS technology to pinpoint incident locations swiftly and accurately Maintain detailed records through transcription, data entry, and incident logging to ensure comprehensive documentation of all communications Apply medical terminology and first aid knowledge when providing pre-arrival instructions or support during emergencies Manage conflict situations with professionalism using negotiation skills and conflict management techniques to de-escalate tense interactions Ensure adherence to security protocols while managing sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality Demonstrate excellent phone etiquette and communication skills to reassure callers and relay information clearly under stress Analyze incoming data rapidly to prioritize responses effectively while maintaining situational awareness Experience Prior experience in emergency dispatching or public safety communications is highly preferred EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) experience or background in medical response enhances your ability to handle medical-related calls effectively Familiarity with law enforcement procedures, security protocols, or first responder operations is advantageous Proficiency with GIS mapping tools, GPS devices, and multi-line phone systems is desirable Strong typing skills for quick data entry along with transcription abilities are essential for accurate record keeping Knowledge of medical terminology, first aid procedures, and basic crisis negotiation techniques is a plus Demonstrated analysis skills for assessing situations rapidly and making sound decisions under pressure Excellent communication skills with the ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress scenarios Join us in this rewarding role where your quick thinking, clear communication, and dedication will help protect our community every day!
