Field Technician — Telecommunications & Cable Installation (1099 Contract)

1099 Independent Contractor | Full-Time Availability Required About the Opportunity Ready to trade the desk for the field? We're looking for a sharp, experienced Field Technician to join a fast-moving team delivering high-quality cable and telecommunications services directly to residential and commercial clients across NYC. This isn't an entry-level gig — we need someone who knows the work, owns their craft, and takes pride in getting it right the first time. You'll be out in the field every day, hands-on with real infrastructure, solving real problems. If you're the type who'd rather be working than waiting, this role was built for you.- What You'll Be Doing
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair RG6 coaxial cable systems as the core of your daily work — residential and commercial drops, splitters, wall plates, and signal testing
- Run clean, professional coax cable installations end to end: from the tap at the street to the outlet inside the unit
- Execute aerial drops using a 28-foot ladder — safely running cable from the pole or building exterior to the customer premises
- Perform fiber optic installations when required on select jobs (RFSP/RFDP service types)
- Set up and activate cable modems, set-top boxes, routers, and MoCA adapters per service specifications
- Diagnose and resolve signal-level issues using signal meters, cable analyzers, and splitter testing — you know what a good dB reading looks like
- Identify and correct problems with existing coax infrastructure : corroded connectors, damaged drops, improper splitter configurations, and grounding issues
- Maintain clean, accurate documentation for every job: completion logs, test results, and service notes
- What We're Looking For This role requires experience. We are not training from scratch.
- Solid hands-on experience with RG6 coax cable installation — compression fittings, splitters, diplexers, grounding blocks, and drop replacement
- Ability to read signal levels and troubleshoot upstream/downstream issues from tap to outlet
- Experience running aerial and underground drops in a residential environment
- Comfortable working on a 28-foot ladder for aerial drop work — safely and efficiently every time
- Familiarity with fiber optic installations is a plus for fiber service jobs
- Knowledge of cable TV/internet service activation and basic equipment configuration
- Strong troubleshooting instincts — you can walk into a problematic unit and figure it out fast
- Valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record — required, no exceptions
- Reliable transportation — you are responsible for getting yourself from job to job
