Description Benefits Questions Duties and Responsibilities Essential Job Functions:
Installs, terminates, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains the City's physical communications infrastructure, including structured cabling, copper and fiber optic cable plant, telecommunications rooms, patch panels, cross-connects, and related low-voltage systems. Supports radio, telephone, television/video distribution, and associated communications systems; assists with troubleshooting door access systems; and supports audiovisual systems in council chambers and other designated facilities. Performs system moves, adds, and changes; monitors communications equipment for reliable operation and regulatory compliance; maintains asset inventories, documentation, labeling, diagrams, and service records; assists with evaluating replacement or upgraded equipment; and provides technical guidance to users and departments on proper equipment use and service requests.

Minimum Essential Qualifications Knowledge :
Knowledge of FCC regulations and applicable industry standards; electrical and electronic theory and application; radio operating systems including Low Band, VHF, UHF, 800 MHz, and 900 MHz systems; telephone and voice communications systems; structured cabling systems and physical network infrastructure, including copper and fiber optic media; television/video distribution technologies; basic access control and audiovisual support concepts; and the methods, materials, tools, test equipment, and safety practices associated with telecommunications and low-voltage systems.
Skills/Abilities:
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, riser diagrams, and telecommunications plans; install, terminate, label, test, and troubleshoot copper and fiber optic cabling and related communications equipment; diagnose and resolve issues in radio, telephone, television/video, access control, and audiovisual support systems within the scope of the position; maintain accurate documentation and inventories; use specialized test equipment and hand tools safely and effectively; communicate clearly with technical and non-technical users; and work independently or as part of a team in field and facility environments.
Physical Requirements:
Constantly sees and hears; frequently uses a calculator, writes by hand, cleans, crawls, drives, kneels, sits, squats, stoops, twist body, walks, carries and lifts objects up to 20 lbs., pulls objects weighing up to 15 lbs.; Infrequently files, climbs and sorts.
