This is a hands-on, field-based role responsible for conducting job site inspections, monitoring crew and subcontractor performance, verifying adherence to company standards, and identifying potential safety or quality concerns before they impact project execution. The ideal candidate is highly observant, safety-focused, and experienced in underground utility construction. This role works closely with field crews, supervisors, subcontractors, and management to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company and customer expectations. Qualifications 2+ years of experience in underground utility, telecom, or construction operations preferred Experience working around HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) operations strongly preferred Strong understanding of underground construction practices and job site safety requirements Ability to identify quality deficiencies, safety concerns, and process improvement opportunities Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safe work practices Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills Ability to work independently and manage multiple active job sites Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Experience preparing reports and documenting field observations Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.) Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout the assigned market Key Responsibilities Conduct routine quality control inspections on active construction projects Monitor company crews and subcontractors to ensure compliance with company standards and customer requirements Perform safety audits and job site inspections to identify potential hazards and unsafe work practices Observe HDD, excavation, utility installation, restoration, and related construction activities to ensure quality standards are met Verify proper use of PPE, traffic control, utility protection measures, and job site safety procedures Document field observations, deficiencies, corrective actions, and follow-up activities Prepare and submit daily end-of-day inspection reports detailing site activity, findings, and recommendations Communicate quality and safety concerns to supervisors and project management in a timely manner Assist with incident investigations and corrective action implementation when necessary Track recurring issues and identify opportunities for process improvement Support project closeout activities, quality verification, and customer punch-list completion Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout field operations Preferred Qualifications Experience in telecommunications or utility construction Previous experience performing quality control, safety inspections, or field audits HDD drilling, locating, or utility installation experience OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification Knowledge of customer quality standards and utility construction specifications Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus About CDL Utilities CDL Utilities is a leading telecommunications construction company specializing in underground and aerial installation, excavation, fiber optic and coax cabling, splicing, and maintenance services.
