Rather than focusing on building robots, BTA emphasizes using robotics tools like ROVs and autonomous surface vessels to explore, map, and understand aquatic environments. Designed for waterfront settings, the program integrates science, data, and field experience, and is being developed in partnership with schools and working waterfront organizations as part of an upcoming nonprofit initiative. About the Role We're looking for a marine education consultant to help us grow and strengthen Blue Tech Academy. This is a contracted role to start; roughly 10-15 hours per week. However, there is the potential for this role to become one of the first full-time employees at a new marine technology nonprofit where BTA operates as the flagship program. You'll be working at the intersection of curriculum, community-building, and program operations. The ideal candidate brings a background in marine science or ocean-related fields and is genuinely excited about connecting students of all ages to ocean careers and exploration through accessible marine technology. What You'll Do Curriculum Development Develop written educational materials including student-facing materials, lesson plans, and facilitation resources Review and contribute to BTA curriculum materials, ensuring content is scientifically accurate, engaging, and NGSS standards-aligned Help refine the overall learning flow and module structure of BTA Program Management Coordinate the execution of Blue Robotics facilitated BTA workshops, including materials, facilitators, and equipment logistics Support BTA inquiry reviews, proposal development, and contracting Facilitator Network Development Design and build a network of instructors who can deliver BTA in schools and community settings Develop onboarding materials, training resources, and support systems for facilitators Identify and cultivate relationships with potential facilitator partners (teachers, informal educators, marine science professionals) Outreach & Documentation Create materials that clearly communicate how educators can engage with BTA Support outreach efforts to expand BTA's reach into new schools, organizations, and regions Document program learnings and help shape the future vision of BTA Who We're Looking For Required Background in marine science, ocean studies, environmental science, marine technology, or a closely related field Experience in education, program coordination, or curriculum development Strong written communication skills - you can translate complex science into accessible, compelling content Self-directed and comfortable working in a small, mission-driven team Preferred Experience building or managing educator/facilitator networks or communities of practice Familiarity with K-12, community college or informal education settings Passion for ocean technology, underwater robotics, or the blue economy Experience working in nonprofit organizations
