Job Description

Job Description Insight Global is hiring experienced Outside Machinists with strong marine and shipyard backgrounds to support aircraft carrier (CVN) maintenance, overhaul, and modernization programs at Newport News Shipyard. In this role, you will perform precision mechanical work on critical shipboard systems, restoring, aligning, installing, and testing equipment in support of NAVSEA‑governed surface ship programs.
What You'll Do:
  • Perform mechanical outside machinist work aboard aircraft carriers (CVNs) at Newport News
  • Shipyard, following all site access, safety, and shipyard protocols
  • Repair, overhaul, and test mechanical components including valves, pumps, and hydraulic systems (overhaul/maintenance work, not new construction)
  • Remove, install, align, and secure mechanical equipment, foundations, hatches, covers, and associated shipboard fittings
  • Execute precision alignments, measurements, and post‑maintenance checks using PMI tools such as calipers, gauges, and bore scopes
  • Perform surface preparation such as grinding and mechanical prep, and complete touch‑up painting in accordance with controlled procedures
  • Troubleshoot and support work across propulsion, auxiliary, fluid, and support systems common to surface vessels
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, work packages, and NAVSEA work instructions
  • Complete required documentation to meet quality, safety, and traceability standards
  • Collaborate with shipyard teams including QA, safety, engineering, and other trades to deliver first‑time quality work on schedule Pay Range 25/hr to 32/hr We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day.
