Job Description
Location:
BAE, Norfolk Essential Duties & Responsibilities Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair steel structures and ship components Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings Perform layout, fit-up, grinding, burning, and tack welding operations Operate hand tools, power tools, torches, and shop equipment safely Assist with shipboard structural repairs and modifications Work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and aboard active vessels Follow all OSHA, NAVSEA, and shipyard safety regulations Maintain clean and organized work areas Collaborate with welders, fitters, riggers, and supervisors to complete projects on schedule Qualifications Previous boilermaker, structural steel, shipfitting, or heavy industrial experience preferred Ability to read and understand blueprints and weld symbols Experience with shipyard or marine repair environments strongly preferred Knowledge of safe rigging, burning, and fabrication practices Ability to work independently and as part of a production team Strong attendance and safety record required Work Environment Employees may work: Inside vessels and confined spaces On scaffolding, ladders, piers, and elevated platforms Outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, humidity, cold, wind, and rain In noisy industrial environments requiring mandatory PPE Work environments may include exposure to: Moving mechanical equipment Overhead operations Hot work areas Limited lighting and ventilation aboard vessels Physical Requirements Qualified candidates must be able to: Lift, push, or pull up to 50-100 lbs occasionally Stand, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb for extended periods Work safely at heights above 12 feet Access confined spaces through openings as small as 18" x 36" Use tools and equipment requiring strong grip strength and coordination Work in physically demanding shipyard conditions throughout the shiftPay:
