Job Description
Overview The Heavy Equipment Tire Mechanic will repair, replace, and service tires on heavy civil construction equipment and on-road construction equipment. This position will primarily work in the field rather than in a shop environment and will require travel to active project sites. The ideal candidate will have experience operating a tire repair/service truck and working on large construction equipment, especially articulated haul trucks equipped with wide tires. This role requires a safety-focused, dependable individual who can work independently in field conditions, respond to equipment needs, and support ongoing construction operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Repair, replace, mount, dismount, and service tires on heavy civil construction equipment. Perform tire work on articulated haul trucks, loaders, graders, dozers, compactors, haul trucks, and other off-road equipment. Service tires on on-road construction equipment, trucks, and support vehicles as needed. Operate a tire repair/service truck safely and efficiently in field and jobsite environments. Inspect tires, wheels, rims, valves, and related components for damage, wear, or unsafe conditions. Perform emergency field tire repairs to reduce equipment downtime. Maintain accurate records of tire repairs, replacements, inspections, and service calls. Follow all company safety policies, DOT requirements, site-specific safety rules, and equipment procedures. Coordinate with equipment managers, foremen, operators, and project teams to prioritize repairs. Maintain tools, supplies, and inventory on the tire service truck. Work in outdoor field conditions, including uneven terrain, active construction sites, and varying weather conditions. Travel to out-of-town jobsites and stay overnight when required.
QUALIFICAITONS
Previous experience as a tire mechanic, heavy equipment tire technician, or field service tire technician. Experience with large/wide tires used on articulated haul trucks and other Heavy off-road construction equipment. Ability to safely operate a tire repair/service truck. Valid CDL driver's license required. Acceptable driving record. Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and maneuver heavy tires, tools, and equipment. Willingness to travel and stay out of town overnight as needed. Strong understanding of safe tire handling, inflation procedures, jacking, blocking, and equipment lockout practices. Ability to work extended hours, weekends, or respond to urgent field repairs when needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The majority of this position is performed in the field at active construction sites, not in a shop. Work may be performed in outdoor environments, around active equipment, on uneven ground, and in varying weather conditions. The position may require travel to project locations and overnight stays.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift and handle heavy tools, tire components, and equipment parts. Ability to climb, bend, kneel, squat, stand, and work around large equipment for extended periods. Ability to work safely around heavy machinery and active construction operations. Ability to perform physically demanding work in field conditions.
Pay:
$25.00 - $31.00 per hour
