Fire Watch/Helper

Fire Watch / Helper The Fire Watch / Helper is responsible for monitoring areas where hot work such as welding, cutting, grinding, torch work, and other spark producing activities are being performed to help prevent fire hazards and maintain a safe work environment. This position also provides general labor and field support to welders, fitters, foremen, and field crews as needed to assist with daily operations and jobsite productivity.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain a safe work zone during all hot work operations Stay alert and continuously monitor for sparks, heat buildup, falling debris, smoke, or other potential fire hazards Keep fire extinguishers and fire prevention equipment nearby, accessible, and ready for immediate use Remain on site during and after hot work for the required fire watch and cool down period Assist welders and field crews with setup, material handling, staging, and general support tasks Assist with grinding, cutting, chipping, drilling, and preparation of materials for fabrication and installation Help stage steel, fittings, hardware, welding leads, extension cords, and job materials for crews Load, unload, organize, and transport tools, equipment, materials, and supplies Assist with basic layout, measurements, and preparation of materials as directed Operate basic hand tools and power tools safely and properly Assist with maintaining and organizing tools, welding machines, cords, hoses, and equipment Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, gang boxes, trailers, and equipment Assist with moving steel, rigging materials, and preparing work areas for installation activities Support field crews with barricades, jobsite protection, debris removal, sweeping, and cleanup Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and site specific safety procedures Wear and maintain proper PPE at all times Communicate hazards, unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or fire risks immediately to supervision Perform other general labor and helper duties as assigned by supervision

Requirements:

Basic understanding of fire safety and construction site safety procedures Ability to remain attentive and focused for extended periods of time Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions Physical ability to lift 50 pounds, carry, push, pull, and move materials and equipment safely Ability to follow direction and work effectively as part of a team Reliable transportation and dependable attendance Willingness to learn construction, welding, fabrication, and field installation operations OSHA 10 certification preferred but not required Experience working in construction, fabrication, welding, or industrial environments is a plus
