The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service. Engineering is responsible for building and maintaining the majority of Metra's fixed assets, such as buildings, stations, bridges, track, electrical, telecommunications and signal systems. The Engineering Department also monitors the condition of and assists in building and maintaining the fixed assets on the freight lines where Metra trains operate. The Engineering Department is divided into two major groups: Capital Projects, and Communications and Maintenance. Duties include digging, installing wire/cable, and working outside in different weather conditions. This is a Union position. Job Requirements Applicants must possess at least one (1) of the following requirements: Must possess an Associates degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering Or in lieu of specified degree must have two (2) years of experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical equipment.
Applicants must also:
Have ability to bend, stoop, lift, carry, and move weight up to 75 lbs. and must be able to distinguish colors (red, blue, green, and yellow). Be available to work different shifts, holidays, and weekends and travel to different work locations within Metra's six county regions.
Preferences:
Experience with operating equipment, e.g., backhoes and trenchers. Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Computer skills.
