Summer Seasonal Highway Department Maintainer - Summer 2026 Downers Grove Township Highway Department Westmont, IL Job Details Seasonal | Full-time $19 an hour 1 day ago Benefits On-the-job training Qualifications Tree trimming Outdoor work Driver's License Manual handling Full Job Description The Downers Grove Township Highway Department is accepting applications to fill multiple Summer Seasonal Highway Department Maintainer positions for the 2026 season. These positions are temporary and intended to support township operations during peak summer months.
Employment Details Season:
May/June through August 2026
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Compensation:
$19.00 per hour
Overtime:
Overtime opportunities may be available as needed Position Summary Seasonal Maintainers assist highway department crews with various township maintenance activities. This position involves primarily outdoor work and requires the ability to perform physically demanding manual labor in varying weather conditions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist crews with general township maintenance, including street, facility, fleet, weed/tree operations Perform maintenance work within township rights-of-way Tasks may include, but are not limited to: o Culvert replacement and ditching o Paving and patching o Mowing, tree trimming, and brush removal o Debris collection and cleanup o Stormwater maintenance and flood control activities Follow all safety procedures and departmental guidelines Carry out assignments as directed by the Foreman and Highway Commissioner Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older Possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 100 pounds with assistance Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods Ability to work effectively in various weather conditions Ability to follow instructions and work cooperatively with supervisors and team members Ability to represent the Township professionally when interacting with the public Demonstrated reliability, efficiency, and strong work ethic Interested applicants can apply by submitting an application via email to or in person at the Township office.
