Responsibilities include fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of roadway signs, posts, and traffic control devices in compliance with MUTCD, state, and federal standards. The incumbent also completes general roadway maintenance tasks, operates a wide range of equipment, maintains accurate work documentation, and assists with emergency response, including winter operations. Full Time employees get $5,000 bonus. Duties Install, repair, fabricate, and replace road signs, posts, supports, and hardware following MUTCD and departmental standards. Conduct routine inspections for visibility, reflectivity, damage, obstructions, and compliance; report and correct deficiencies. Trim brush, weeds, and overgrowth around signs to maintain visibility and ensure public safety. Operate weed‑eaters, trimmers, and apply approved vegetation‑control spray around sign locations as needed to keep signs clear of obstruction. Operate various hand and power tools including drills, drivers, saws, hammers, wrenches, ratchets, and cutting torches. Safely operate sign‑related and highway equipment such as post drivers, post pullers, forklifts, snowplows, trucks, and trailers. Perform daily pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections on vehicles and equipment, checking fluid levels, tires, lighting, hydraulics, blades, and attachments. Respond to sign‑related complaints, knockdowns, storm damage, vandalism, and visibility hazards; resolve issues promptly. Assist with roadway maintenance tasks such as patching, chipping, sealing, ditching, grading, shoulder repair, and debris removal. Participate in snow and ice control operations, including plowing, spreading materials, and operating winter equipment. Provide flagging and traffic control at work sites to ensure crew and public safety. Communicate professionally with coworkers, supervisors, and the public when answering questions at work sites. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and inventory of sign shop materials, hardware, and equipment. Serve on 24‑hour call rotation for emergency response as required. Skills Must possess a valid Indiana driver's license and a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a safe driving record. High school diploma or GED; must meet all hiring requirements, including medical exam and drug screening. Working knowledge of MUTCD standards, sign shop practices, roadway safety rules, and traffic control procedures. Ability to operate, maintain, and protect hand tools, power equipment, and machinery used in sign installation and general road maintenance. Familiarity with OSHA and departmental safety regulations for working in roadway environments. Ability to read maps, work orders, GPS data, sign diagrams, and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to maintain accurate digital and written records of work, inventory, and inspections. $5,000 bonus for
