By joining our Meade County Unit as a Highway Technician Superintendent I in Meade County, you'll have the opportunity to supervise staff performing highway maintenance programs for 250 miles of state-maintained roadways in Meade County.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Supervise and assist highway employees in maintenance and repair of roads, bridges, landslide repairs, etc. Maintain records and reports such as inventory reports, employee performance evaluations Respond and properly supervise snow and ice removal and other emergencies. Lead crews and work in all types of weather and as a team. Assist the Highway Technician Superintendent II with assigning daily work assignments. Ideal candidate will have experience in: Coordinating daily work orders and assignments Computer experience with Microsoft Office Communicating with the public, other public agencies, and elected officials. Purchasing procedures for procuring necessary materials and supplies.

Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial drafting, design technology, construction technology, or a related field will substitute for two (2) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering will substitute for four (4) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance. Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program will substitute for six (6) years of highway related experience in construction or maintenance. College coursework related to any of these fields will substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. Substitute

(AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement to qualify for employment in this job classification. The employee must successfully complete the KYTC Highway Technician Academy Leadership Level 1 or equivalent within one year of employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials. Working Conditions Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather. Must be able to respond to emergencies 24/7. Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in
KRS 18A.111.
