Road and Bridge Maintenance Laborer

Job Summary The Road and Bridge Employee is responsible for performing various tasks related to the maintenance, repair, and construction of county roads, bridges, and right-of-ways. This position involves operating heavy equipment, performing manual labor, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of the county's transportation infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate and maintain heavy equipment, such as motor graders, backhoes, tractors, dump trucks, and loaders. Perform road maintenance tasks, including grading, patching potholes, and applying gravel or asphalt. Assist with bridge repairs, culvert installations, and drainage improvements. Remove debris, tree limbs, and other obstructions from roadways and ditches. Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe work environment. Assist with snow and ice removal operations during winter months. Work with a team to complete assigned road and bridge projects efficiently. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience in construction, road maintenance, or heavy equipment operation is a plus. Ability to operate and maintain various types of road maintenance equipment. Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting heavy objects and working in extreme weather conditions. Valid Missouri driver's license (CDL preferred or ability to obtain one). Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and traffic control measures. Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Working Conditions:

Work is primarily outdoors in all weather conditions. Requires physical labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for long periods. May involve working on-call or extended hours during emergencies, such as flooding or winter storms.
