Job Summary:
A Certified Flagger is responsible for directing and controlling traffic in work zones to ensure the safety of construction crews, pedestrians, and motorists. This role requires maintaining smooth traffic flow while adhering to safety regulations and communication protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic around construction or maintenance sites using signs, hand signals, and communication devices Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices such as cones, barricades, and warning signs Communicate effectively with crew members via radio or hand signals to coordinate safe traffic movement Monitor traffic conditions and adjust control methods as needed to prevent congestion or hazards Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations Remain alert at all times to changing conditions, including weather and traffic patterns Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or accidents immediately to supervisors
Qualifications:
Valid Flagger Certification (as required by state regulations) High school diploma or equivalent preferred Ability to stand for long periods and work in various weather conditions Strong attention to detail and situational awareness Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions Reliable transportation to job sites
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and remain outdoors for extended periods Ability to lift and carry traffic control equipment (up to 25-50 lbs) Good vision and hearing to monitor traffic and communicate effectively
Work Environment:
Outdoor construction and roadway work zones Exposure to moving traffic, noise, dust, and varying weather conditions May require early mornings, nights, weekends, or overtime depending on project needs
