The role involves using hand signals, flags, and communication devices to ensure safety, minimize delays, and prevent accidents.

Key Responsibilities:

Traffic Control:

Direct traffic using hand signals, flags, and electronic devices. Set up and maintain traffic control devices such as cones, signs, and barriers. Monitor and adjust traffic flow based on real-time conditions and project needs.

Safety Management:

Ensure that all traffic control measures comply with local, state, and federal regulations. Monitor and report any safety hazards or incidents to the supervisor. Assist in the safe passage of pedestrians and cyclists through or around the work area.

Communication:

Communicate effectively with drivers, construction workers, and other flaggers to coordinate traffic movements. Use radios or other communication devices to relay instructions and updates.

Reporting:

Document any traffic-related incidents or irregularities. Provide regular updates on traffic conditions and project progress to supervisors.

Site Preparation and Cleanup:

Assist in the setup and removal of traffic control devices. Ensure the work area is clean and free of obstructions when the job is completed.

Qualifications:

Certification:

Valid Flagger Certification Experience:

Previous experience in traffic control or a related field is preferred but not always required.

Skills:

Strong communication skills, the ability to work in various weather conditions, attention to detail, and the ability to stay alert and focused for extended periods.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for long periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions. Good vision and hearing for effective communication and observation.

Work Environment:

Outdoor settings with exposure to various weather conditions. Potentially high-traffic areas with noise and activity from both construction equipment and vehicles.
