Job Description
We are looking for an Apprentice Lineman in our Lamar, Colorado location. Southeast Colorado Power Association (SECPA) is a member-owned rural electric cooperative that provides electric service to over 10,500 AMI meters at 55MW peak. The 13,000 square mile service territory covers all or parts of 11 southeast Colorado counties with 5700 energized line miles (14.4kV, 24.9kV, 69kV). SECPA is headquartered in La Junta, Colorado with three satellite locations in Eads, Lamar, and Springfield. We offer competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package.
Position Responsibilities:
Apprentice linemen work closely with journeyman linemen, foremen, and/or other line crew personnel to accomplish jobs as assigned. Assists in constructing, repairing, troubleshooting, patrolling, installing, and maintaining transmission and distribution lines, structures, transformers, meters, and associated equipment. Learns to perform the essential functions of the Journeyman Lineman position. Completes required related training as directed by the Apprenticeship Committee. Progresses through the Apprenticeship Program in a satisfactory and timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Must be willing to learn and obey all OSHA regulations and safety rules necessary to perform the job. Must be able to learn and apply CPR and first aid techniques. Must possess knowledge of RUS specs and material uses and be capable of operating a boom truck and aerial device. It is important to understand how to operate a two-way radio under established procedure and FCC rules. Must have a valid Commercial Driver's License, Class A (CDL) or be able to obtain CDL Class A within sixty days. Must be willing to accept duty calls at any time of the day or night. Must live within 60-mile radius to the Lamar office/warehouse in order to respond to trouble calls in a timely manner.
Essential Physical & Mental Demands:
Tasks involve working in adverse weather, repetitive lifting, exposure to noise and potentially dangerous conditions. Successful applicant must be physically able to accomplish duties, possess an aptitude for line work, and maintain a neat clean appearance. Employment with SECPA is contingent upon successfully completing pre‑employment screening, which includes background checks and drug/alcohol testing, conducted in compliance with federal and Colorado law. Any required background check will be performed with your written authorization and in accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
